So with a fella over on AZ putting an R8 block in his RS4, it confirms quite a few things about the similarities between the two blocks. So the immediate question that comes to mind is, can the dry sump system from the R8 be adapted to the RS4? There will need to be some creative fabrication to get the oil tank to fit. It would be great to adapt the R8 can, since it already has the oil level/temp sensor provisions and the OE feel. It looks like the oil pump for the dry sump system feeds off the same gear. The R8 does have the front axle shaft running through the lower bed plate, my guess would be those shaft bearings can be blocked/capped off.
What I’ll need from the R8:
Everything from the lower bed plate assemblies
Oil & Water pump assemblies
Oil tank
Oil pressure/regulator valves?
Aftermarket:
External oil thermostat
Plumbing
The AC compressor looks to be the same, but I haven’t checked the part number. I reached out to Suly on AZ to see if I can purchase all the swapped over R8 parts, but haven’t heard back.
I’m looking for you guys to shoot holes in this idea…what am i forgetting? Why wouldn’t this work?
