DSG taken apart...

Saw this in the Aussie dudes RS5 build thread… Cool pics… I’ll probably upgrade my DSG at some point, so I figured I would post… I believe ours is different but I’m sure the bulk is the same… Wonder if this dude will actually ever run his car at the strip? Would love to see some passes…

Really cool. Looks like a complicated and very labor-intensive upgrade. Who tuned his TCU?

What is he doing to the DSG? I didn’t really see anything upgraded, just pics of it broken down.

Cryo gears?

^^

[QUOTE=marzz;9473041]new addition to RS5 bible:
currently upgrading, first in the world, RS5 clutch packs, full custom job, extra plates, some machining, upgraded seals to hold higher oil pressures etc, details to follow …

also, few small projects in development as well, stay tuned

yeah, he’s doing what I said above. Spending money for the sake of spending money.

He wants to be able to say ‘I’ve got the upgraded blah blah blah’. Meanwhile we haven’t seen a lick of evidence that its necessary.

He has a supercharged 4.2 RS5 that we have seen zero performance data on. Just a dyno showing something like 500 whp and 400 wtq. Great…that’s what a tuned S6 does. So why are you spending $6,000 to pull your transmission and ‘upgrade’ your DSG (it could easily make it worse)?

ssp clutch packs maybe? That’s the one I see a few dsg guys doing… I think they are just placebic though. Same with most of the hardware upgrades you can do on a tip trans, doesn’t make it any better than OEM.

never

He has been promising it for years. Remember ,he has the old Rs5. He promised when he was stock. He promised when he got the ridiculous exhaust. He promised when he got supercharged. Now he has torn the car apart again for clutch work, when it hasn’t even been pushed other than on the dyno. I suggested he just do some pbox stuff a few times at these stages once he started making excuses about not hitting the strip (despite saying he would) and I just lost interest.

I seriously doubt he will ever do anything. He has spent probably the equivalent to us of about $40,000 in mods (and about $80,000 down under) to this car, and for what? So Audizine kids can say ‘SIIIIICK! YOU WIN THE INTERNET!’

Prediction? He will sell the car in about 12 months. He has done everything he could to it, and I think he just needs projects to keep his mind active. He doesn’t care about performance. He cares about telling you how much power his car makes at cocktail parties.

Pretty cool. Looks like it even has syncros. Didn’t know they resembled an MT internally

That looks like the equivalent of driving a new car off the lot, then disassembling the transmission. How about he has them look for any type of wear. Instead he is just upgrading stuff to win “coolest guys on Audizine”

Hey I know of a certain prominent forum member who bought a new audi, drove it home and tore it to pieces, nothing wrong with that :stuck_out_tongue:

It does seem like it’s all for audizine bropoints though. Unfortunate, with that sort of disposable income he could make a lot of headway on getting some actual performance out of the car.

who?

Well he posted this:
“currently upgrading, first in the world, RS5 clutch packs, full custom job, extra plates, some machining, upgraded seals to hold higher oil pressures etc, details to follow …”

the reason stated:
"while we’ve got the gearbox out and stripped to fix the bloody gear lever sensor issue, thought we could preventively address the wet clutches as well - extra plates, some machining and stronger oil seals, trying the get some pics myself, as I’m not the stronic specialist and right shop is doing it.
will try to work out if the clutch upgrade can be done by itself and what’s the process, stay tuned …
I guess the beast is a keeper for a while now … "

LOL… Probably could have gotten Audi to fix his sensor…

Dude obviously has cash to burn so I don’t mind watching what he does… lol

Saki, Yeah kind of sad to spend all that money on a car and not know what it can do… Actually, it’s more than kind of sad it’s really sad… Hopefully, the next owners takes it to the strip…

While I respect the time and effort out into that car.

It is a damn shame it won’t be put to use.

Is it tracked at all?

I could have sworn he at one time hit the road course but I may be mistaken.

I had the same sensor error, they changed the mechatronics. They said it would have been $3-4k if I had to pay. Up to me? I’d pay a shop to do it (and probably for less), even more likely if there was an upgraded part I could try…but I didn’t know there actually was anything available?
