Dyno Pulls - B7 S4

I headed up to Enhanced Street Performance in Sterling, MA today to get a few pulls in. It was my first time dyno-ing a car and Dave and Justin took great care of me and my car. Overall had a ton of fun and got some good info.

Here’s the results:

1st pull - 3rd gear - 285.6/272
2nd pull - 4th gear - 306.2/270.7 (as you’ll see on the graphs when I upload them, the 306.2 occurred on a spike, and likely wasn’t legit)
3rd pull - 4th gear - 301.1/270.4

Weather Conditions: 66 degrees, 17% humidity, DA estimated using a calculator at ~922ft (elevation 508ft, temp 66f, altimeter setting 30.11, dew point 23f)

Specs on the car:
2005.5 S4 - MT
66k miles
up-to-date on all maintenance
mods: Fast Intentions 2.5" catted downpipes, Fast Intentions 2.5" catback with xpipe and 14" resonators, and a JHM Intake Manifold. NO TUNE. Also has 19" Neuspeed RS-10 wheels that shave a few lbs compared to stock. They’re probably 45lbs per wheel with tires.

Overall I was quite pleased with the results. I wanted to get a baseline before sending my ecu out to JHM. Now that I got it done, I can finally get my tune!

I’m not sure if 3rd gear pulls or 4th gears pulls are the norm for the S4, so maybe someone can provide some insight on that. Any thoughts, comments, recommendations or questions are welcomed.

And if someone could tell me how I can post a .pdf file I would greatly appreciate it. I tried to convert the pdf to an image and didn’t have much success.

strong numbers although we don’t know how the dyno reads

make note of the conditons too…source pressure, humidity and temp.

good stuff, solid numbers sans tune… hopefully with a tune you’ll be in the mid 320’s whp/ mid 290’s wtq.

Solid history of Audis dynoing at ESP as well

oh is this where you went beem? Maybe we should have a dyno thread here with your charts you made,

bwt - post up yours if you can…will be interesting to compare to beems old numbers.

google convert pdf to jpg and youll find a site that does it for you

i.e. http://pdf2jpg.net/

yeah, esp has had a lot of Audi Dyno days in the past so their is a good history (a la 034)… we’re looking into doing another one soon, hopefully I can have the A6 on the rollers if everything is running well

Yea, this is the same place Beem went in the past. He recommended it to me. Checking into the weather conditions and pdf converter now.

Beem - did you guys run your cars in 3rd or 4th when you went? I thought 3rd was the norm, but Dave thought 4th was best because it was closest to 1:1. Not exactly sure what that means, so I just defaulted to his expertise and did 1 3rd and 2 4ths.

the day I was there they ran loucura’s S4 in 3rd then 4th, then did 4th for all of the other 8E cars for the rest of the day

Ok, cool. So 301/270 is consistent with the rest of those results. Like you said, I should be looking at 320+/290+ after adding the tune. And even higher if I go catless… maybe another 5-10 hp/tq

Do you know which brand dyno they are using?

The sheets say PowerDyne Mustang Dynomometer.

The after the JHM tune numbers should be right there. Still you have to take a grain of salt. With the temps and humidity going up your not going to be able to get the most out of the accuracy of the dyno.

Mass weather is super variable, it’s been 80*F and humid all weekend, so theres a good chance the weather will be similar on the second runs

Updated the OP with graphs and results pages.

Does anyone know why the graph numbers would show slightly lower numbers than the results page?

here;s a bunch more results at that same dyno (the bottom results ENHANCED STREET PERFORMANCE)

Well, it took me 364 days but I finally made it back to the dyno after getting tuned. Trying to upload the graphs now, but the results were 311.4whp/286.0wtq, which is +11whp/+15wtq over stock. Pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.

Only change to the car was a JHM tune. Will update with more info later.

good stuff, the date for the original post was confusing me for a bit until i saw the 2012 lol

thats a huge gain for a NA car. But didnt you Dyno 306 stock?

Yea, not bad at all. The 306 run was a spike in the graph, so I consider the 301 to be the baseline. My 2nd and 3rd pulls of todays runs both had spikes as well. That made them read something like 322 & 326 peak, but that’s obviously not a good measure. You see what I mean when I post the graphs.

I guess I shouldn’t be referring to the 301/270 runs as stock, since I did have a full 2.5" exhaust and JHM IM. I should be calling them my baseline.

Here’s the graph’s:

That AFR after the tune, when compared to stock, is a thing of beauty.
