ECS Data Breach

Anyone else get hit?

According to the email I got:

I did not get an email from them and I have purchased items from them in the past. Maybe people who have purchased within a certain timeframe are the only ones affected?

Yeah no email for me either. I’ll keep an eye on my cards…

No email but I had 2 fraudulent charges 2 weeks ago

Scammers suck. Costing us millions/billions every year.

[quote]We value our relationship with you and we look forward to serving your future needs. Regrettably, we would like to inform you that between May 6th and May 10th, 2012, unauthorized access by an unknown third party concerning customers’ personal information associated with pending and previously shipped orders occurred. This breach affected less than 3.0% of the ECS Tuning customer base. We have taken prompt action to secure the system to prevent any further compromises.

So I guess it only affects those who made transactions around that time frame… unlucky me.

I’m not too worried about any fraud transactions since they can be easily contested. Credit card companies will only allow you to be screwed over by themselves. If anyone else tries they’ll be all over them like an angry pimp.

I’m just worried about the other personal details being leaked and any impact on my credit score as a result of someone using that info…

I don’t use my debit card anymore online. Just credit cards. Easy to get screwed using a debit online

America is sort of in the dark ages with the payment systems mostly because there are thousands of regional banks and getting everyone on board with everything is near impossible.

for perspective, we have had debit cards since the original rs2.

^ We did too, it just wasn’t widely known about or accepted.

I didn’t even realize how many people used debit cards online until I started reading the threads about the leak. I could never fathom using my debit online… Even if you have the money, why not just use a no fee credit card and rack up the points instead?

These fucks gave away all my personal info as well as my girlfriends info. She was wondering why her card got randomly cancelled about a month ago. Then I realized that I used her card to buy a part on ECS. Makes sense now.

So since the order info was my full name and address for the shipping and her full name, address and cc info for billing, it’s safe to say we both have watch out for identity theft now.

Neither of us got any notification from ECS. What a garbage company. I hope they get sued.

Apparently got mine too.

Bank of America closed my CC account and sent me a new one with a letter. Thumbs up for them, thumbs down for ECS.

Well shit… just got my card fraud blocked.

Apparently someone made a claim on real.com and some other automotive thing for over a thousand.

Considering looking into my credit history too to see if any other cards were applied for under my name :frowning:

is that a result of the ECS tuning thing?

contact the credit agencies and put ‘fraud alert’ or ‘credit alert’ on your file. That way whenever ‘you’ apply for credit, the agency has to contact you on your mobile phone to approve it, with verification of a couple of questions that you provide them the answers to.

Yeah I’d assume it is. I don’t use my credit card number usually. I stick to PayPal to avoid these things.

Thanks for the credit tip… never knew you could do that!
