ECUTOOL.com VAG Com cables - some info

I ordered 2 of the 11.10 hardware to use on my sons 2008 GTI. The 10.6.3 works good but I get some errors
on the new protocol they use for the air-bag and radio.

I let everyone know how it goes. and here is a link for the 11.10 hardware and download.

What everyone should know about the ECUTool cable and other generic cables.

Hey everyone.

So I need to have a Vag cable for my car. Im tired of using Torque exclusively. Anyway, I went to buy this cable and then the site said it was sold out. So I messaged them and they sent me back a link for this cable.

Will this cable work and allow me to log data? I currently am more concerned with coding out some features in the car and adding a few others, but long term, I’d like to be able to log data.

It’s kinda hard for us to “know” if it WILL work. It’s $20 man, just try it.

I always will recommend just buying the rose tech cable. You won’t regret it and it will hold it’s value so normally you can resell the cable to get most of your money back. Plus you don’t have to worry about software conflicts or having to hop on one leg with your finger on your nose while trying to use the cable so it works correctly.

I know the whole, buy the genuine cable debate. Isn’t the point of this thread to explain how to use this cable from ecutool.com? The original part number listed in the first few threads is no longer available, instead of I was directed to this cable by the site. I figure its an undated version of the old cable. Currently I’d rather spend the $400 on a set of control arms, not a cable that I dont really need.

If you don’t want to invest in the Ross Tech cable, try finding someone near you who is willing to let you use theirs.

Or take the gamble on el cheapo.

Yeah, there are dozens of cable owners who will do stuff for you.

Of course if you have a few year old car, you’ll inevitably have a weird problem or CEL that will have you wanting to know instantly what is up. So get one.

Calm down buddy, if you can read you will see I contributed a pretty good amount of info to this thread. Many of us have moved on to a Ross-tech cable and like I said…it’s 20 fucking dollars, buy it, try it out and report back to help out the next guy.

I said the genuine cable will be worth more in the long run and will retain most of its value…I don’t care if you buy the knock off. Hell I gave my old knock off cable away for free.

Yes of course you don’t NEED one until you don’t have one, then you NEED one or someone else with one…or you buy a knock off one that sometimes is a pain in the ass…and then you say screw this shit, buy a rose tech cable, and come back and say, sorry euroswagr.

BUMP

Anyone still successfully using 10.6? Tried to fire it up yesterday but the program won’t even launch.

This is why I generally dont update the software. I have ran into a few bugs over the years with updates. I usually hold off for a few months each time I see an update before I will actually update

Well 10.6 is the one that I used to use back in the day when I originally got my ecutool cable. They are on 15.6 now.

10.6 just will not launch. Double click the icon and nothing happens. Tried running it in xp mode(I have win 7 pro) and vista mode. Tried 32 bit and 64 bit and still nothing. I guess I am just SOL here.

I just bought a vagcom proper cable from a site member after running into trouble with the ecutool. Vagcom was bought used, works nicely without any hassle, and won’t lose its value too much. Whereas the ECUtool cable eventually caused problems and is eventually worthless.

If you reckon a $35 cable will depreciate to $0, and a $250 used vagcom cable will probably not depreciate much at all, it’s one of those things you have to weigh.

Yeah, it looks like I am just going to buy the real one now and not have to worry about it not working.
