EPL tune??

Wondering if and when we will learn about the EPL tune. The website is off line and I keep hearing they are working with AMD on their supercharger. If anyone has info in sure there are many if us who want to know what’s up. Thx

The EPL tune will request way too much timing which will be extrmely dangerous for your motor, and they will probably completely disable any CEL system so if the motor is going to blow, you’ll never know about it

Not sure. They have shared very little on their RS4 program. They had 2 guys on the forums who bought the tune for their RS4s and promised lots of info sharing. The one guy dyno’d his car 1x and the other guy did nothing (that I’ve seen). No quarter mile times, no logs posted, no pbox times. Just a dyno at EPL and a dyno at another place, neither of which were all that awesome (analysis in the thread below)

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/420178-EPL-Custom-Tune-vs-APR-OTS-TUNE-vs-GIAC-OTS-TUNE

To be honeest, I can’t think of a reason to choose EPL. Have they ever tuned an NA Audi and had success? (and I don’t measure success by their in house dyno).

We have a consolidated quarter mile list on this site with years of data from B5 to B8. Even though EPL has tuned hundreds of cars…there are 2 (TWO) on the entire list. Both are B5 S4s…one good time of 11.6@123 with K04/RS6 hybrids…but the tune was tweaked by the owner. The other was a K04 B5 S4 on race gas…that ran 12.0 @ 115.9.

I don’t buy into the hype, personally.

I doubt any mainstream tuner would release a final product that was that dangerous to the engine. N/A tuners are more likely to write a tune that is safe but does little to help performance.

The simple answer to EPL tune?? is ??. No one knows anything. They don’t have a track record with the 4.2 that would suggest they’re going to develop anything groundbreaking. But, we shall see.

EPL will be the next tuning heroes with the AMD/Jon Cohen supercharger right?

not sure heroes is the word I’d use yet, but yes they will tune it

I PM’d jason at AMD on here to come post about their kit (they joined a month ago) but haven’t seen anything.

Correct, they won’t knowingly release a “damaging” tune but sometimes it takes many miles/months/scenarios to expose problems. At least JHM tested their own for 10k or whatever it was. Still, there’s an awful lot of variables. ECUs are incredible complex.

^^Right. That’s why they release beta tunes to a select group first in order to test their product before its released. At least the companies who do it right. EPL has been around a while. One batch of bad tunes would kill their business and they are smart enough to know that.

EDIT

Replace bad with damaging

Well, I don’t think any of us know what the tuners REALLY do. It’s very complex yes, but I’ve heard crazy stories from a few of the tuning companies about their competitors that would make your hair stand on end. Everything from tunes being so simple/doing nothing that it’s tantamount to stealing to charge $600 for it…to tunes that saw the tuner struggling to manage problems/CELs etc. so they just started turning off all the safety parameters that were giving them trouble.

Back on topic, I can’t wait for someone to tell me why I, as an RS4 owners, should trust EPL with my business? What have they done for the RS4? What has their tune accomplished on the RS4? Or on ANY other Audi for that matter.

All I know is they have 2 cars in the top 150 quarter mile times from ALL Audi forums for all S/RS platforms…they have a couple of fast 60-130 times for the B5…and they have shiny floors and ‘work on some serious cars’ (begin listing R8 twin turbos, 911s etc. etc.) which as we all know means fuck all if those cars keep running 12s. Oh and they have lots of great dyno numbers (on their or their sister shop’s dyno). There are even a few decent dyno numbers from third party dynos…however as we all know dyno fast doesn’t equal road fast.

Can anyone help with some actual info?

but, they do ‘custom’ tunes for each car… they must be better!.. …

… …

lok

ahh, sorry. I forgot they will write custom parameters around your worse-than-stock catback. Thank you beemercer!

EPL is gotten cought up in the paper chase of the dyno world. They play the dyno game and then run from any actual performance. There are reasons for it. Just in another thread a B5 guy paid MASSIVE amounts of money to have his car built and then EPL tuned. Only to then reply bassicly that they have to be carefull tull they know the car runs right… WHAT… yes. They paid over 1000$ for a EPL tune so they could get the car back and test the tune to make sure it was safe.

EPL is just like PES. Give people something cheap enough so they will toute your priduct and then provent any real information on getting out tehre so you can live off dyno hype and memebrs trying to justify there money. All this in hopes of being able to drive up the price of your tune.

Call me when a company actually buys a car and dose R&D on it and isn’t openly willing to take tens of thousands of dollars to use a customers car as a test bed.

Funny you posted this without seeing my response. Assuming really gets the job done eh? Whether they have a lot of 4.2 expertise or not, the part of your post that includes me and my car is asinine.

Got some epl success for us tweets?

Best I can do is a log right now and I am in the hills of south-east-central PA. Saki, you’re gonna love the car when you ride in it. I’m visiting my buddy who lives an hour out of Toronto after I get home. I didn’t bring the V-box either. I don’t need the distraction. Gotta earn my reputation by staying focused for this job.

I actually do, but its for the B5S4. I have a EPL tuner local to me that does great work at great personal expense. He regularly stays up to the crack of dawn working on and fine tuning peoples cars because he loves doing it. A friend of mine has a stage 3 B5S4 and had a APR run of the mill tune on it and the guy was actually close to selling the car because he didn’t feel it was strong enough. He ended up giving EPL a shot and now every time he talks about his car he’s smiling ear to ear. I have no dynos or 1/4 mile times only what a friend tells me so take that for what it is.

Now, this by no means gives us any indication of how well EPL can tune a 4.2. Or if the local success of the EPL tuner is due to the fact that he spends the extra time with people’s cars rather than just flashing and pocketing the money. I don’t know what any of this means except the fact that my local second hand knowledge of EPL has been positive. That is enough to make me interested in what they are doing rather than blowing them off before I see what they’ve got. I do understand if other people don’t feel the same way with the dearth of quantitative results out there.

I’m sure it will be great.

I can’t wait to see you race your brother, personally.

If you want a car with the correction factor and timing multipliers changed and fucked with ,go with epl. if you dont care if your motor goes POP on the dyno, then go with epl… if you want them to give you a dyno sheet with 600gazillion whp and only run 12`s and trap 120,GO WITH EPL
