Exhaust Gains

I don’t know if this will get me lynched (how can I say this nicely), but to me the B8 S4’s signature is not its sound…so not sure I’d emphasize it.

The B8’s signature is its understated elegance and killer performance. If I owned one (NEVER! HATER TILL I DIE! :D) I would go tune/pulley/de-cat (or HFC)/LW Wheels (that look OEM+)/LW rotors and I would shock the shit out of people on a regular basis. That was my master plan for the B8 S4 Avant that my wife was supposed to drive (back when we thought we would see one). Disappointingly, it appears that there wont even be a B8 A4 Avant as of this July. Pathetic.

But anway, I don’t think I’d make it loud and shouty…especially one that farts (DSG)

nothing wrong with trying

oh shit yeah, for sure. Just saying what I’d do. I’m weird though.

Well thats where I’m at. wheels weigh 20.5lbs BBK up front shaved roughly 10lb and I’m trying to source LW rears. I’m stg2+ with test pipe in the future. Great minds think alike

good stuff man. those LW rotating mods will do wonders

the BBK…do you know what the rotors weigh? That’s the real sneaky hp stealing type of mods that I loved on my B7 S4. I always remember pulling out of the dealership after my new rotors were installed (JHM LW fronts were 10 lbs lighter per corner) and just thinking ‘wow…these actually work’. It’s funny.

20 lb wheels are a boon too…the B8 stockers are like 28-29 lbs each I believe. That’s a HUGE savings!

are you the guy who had the stock B8 S4 record? Hard to remember people without avatars or signatures etc.

That’s my car Sak. Ron keeps telling me to get an intake to get the 11, haven’t yet though.

I am still considering headers on my OEM exhaust too, and once I wear out my 19" RE-11s on the peelers, will likely go 18" wheels, something around 20 lbs that fits over the 380mm brembos I just picked up. Then I can finally fit my beloved Dunlop Z1s on the car…

Yeah, that’s true isn’t it.^^^your car is sneaky as fuck!

What’s the best looking LW wheel on a B8? I’ve seen CHr but they’re pretty heavy too.

RE11s are heavy as hell…something like 28 lbs for those in that size. Compare to Michelin PS2 at 24 lbs. What are the Z1s on a scale? The Dunlop Sport Maxx that came OEM on some of the B8s were heavy as hell.

There will be an A4 based allroad though. At least in the USA. I agree though, the B8 S4 Avant would’ve been a killer sleeper, there’s just something about the wagons on this side of the pond. I must admit I’d never seen an RS4 Avant til I moved here. I used to see at least two RS4 Avants and one RS6 Avant at work.

Having said that, I’ve yet to see a B8 S4 at full exhaust blasting tilt, maybe I should book an appointment at the dealership and film some pulls with my B6 lol.

J, I know others will laugh but an intake will get you more than an exhaust(hfc’s or headers aside)… I got the Brembo’s as well, actually they haven’t arrived yet, I went with black calipers and slotted rotors… I’ll shoot you a PM as I am curious on a few things…

Saki, I think my setup sounds ok but I may be biased! lol Forward to 2:19 and listen from there…

No that’s not me.

^^Sounds very nice PT, kind of throaty. I went through some of your 1/4 mile vids listed under your username. The in car sounds great. However, in the one external video I saw, your car is drowned out by some green car. Either way sleeper central.

TY… That was a gutted Charger… he was running low 12’s high 11’s that day like me… he is there all the time like me… there are a hand full of Chyrsler guys with cars that all run pretty good, nice folks… most of them are gutted though and they change to slicks and skinnes at the track… One of them has a factory race Challenger with a viper motor, almost no interior, and suspension mods… all stock from the factory! I don’t think I have pics and the vid is on my old POS video cam… I run 315DR’s on widened stock wheels on my 99 GT as I like to drive my cars at the track like I do on the street…

And there you go. Anyone that doubts the 1/4 as a benchmark, read this quote. PT knows his car can run with gutted Chargers. How is that not useful information? That must be a great feeling, running your 4 door family sedan with gutted American muscle!

Grrr… I noticed I red lighted(4 hundreths! lol)… I think I only did that twice all year… The car is very consistent… anyway, I needed it as he ran a 11.87 to my 11.93… Always more fun to run someone who runs close to your times…

LOL! Thanks… Although to be honest those cars have a ton of potential… I am faster than a few of them and a slower than a few others at the track I run all the time… it’s all good, like I said I prefer a good close race… especially in this car since I am not rowing gears like the mustang… There is no doubt though these cars surprise people… I get more people coming up to me in the lanes and looking the car over or wanting to ask about it… It doesn’t look like a high 12 second car let alone a low 12/high 11 second car… Some of my encounters on the street are much more fun… 0-90 with this car is very fast and consistent given I run the same on the street as the track… Even the race gas Saki ;D

^^^ and I think that’s one of the pieces of the puzzle. Race gas all the time, your car is adapted right from the get go at the track. I found when I filled up at the track both times, I pick up 2 mph of ET after several runs, and my best runs were the last ones. I believe others have said the same on AZ. I also noticed once when I was logging, the knock-induced timing pull after switching 91 gas to 94 took over 15 km to settle down. That’s a lot more gas than the volume in the fuel lines, probably a few litres given my consumption when logging.

There must be an adaptation in the knock sensors that will predict knock based on certain conditions and not let the ignition timing get too wild. Eventually, I’d guess it just learns its way to the new, higher knock limit, but it takes a while. Ron, I’ll bet your car is always at a higher knock limit.

Speculation based on the evidence thus far…

J, Wouldn’t argue against that… Car hasn’t seen lower than 100 octane since 2,200 miles and it has 5,700 now so it is definely used to it, so to say… lol I do notice performance improves over time(few days maybe 100 miles) after disconnecting the battery or removing the ecu… I haven’t logged timing pull too much but I haven’t seen alot of it when I did… the new tune is getting better and better… felt great last week when it was in the 70’s… It felt way better yesterday when it was in the 40’s…

^^^what’s new on the new tune (v2.5 we’ll call it lol)…more timing, high 20s? less fuel maybe too? Any special tricks with the intake cam adjustment or fuel timing for race gas (seems nobody has talked about it yet, must log if available, lol)

Must admit I was a little disappointed when I saw V2 with seemingly less timing than V1, but more boost (which “could” be related, but seemed a little too low timing to believe). Esp disappointed when it’s possible a REVO car might stay level without a pulley on 93…

sit tight on the rear rotors. great solution will be out very soon, ill let you guys know when they’re ready so i can give my fellow audi revolutionists a head start lol
