Exhaust

Captain Insano had a great Nogaro Blue B6 S4 Avant with JHM EVERYTHING. Being close to countvohn he was lucky enough to be able to be a guinea pig for stuff like headers. He later sold the avant for a VERY fair price on the condition that it was ‘in the family’ to a good member who would keep the car in tact. He felt guilty selling it for full value due to the sweat equity JHM put into his car (free labour and discounted parts etc.)

Anyway, that ‘in the family’ member thought it would be a better idea to instead part the car out INSTANTLY for profit. A real shame. There were a few of us who would have bought it and kept it together if they knew what was going to happen to it.

Watch the avant take off right near the end…violent headers acceleration.

^well regarding the headers idk if I’d call Captain lucky, he donated his car for an extended period of time and spent more than retail to get them. Anyone with JHM headers owes Captain Insano thanks for putting up the money and his car to get them built.

Halo549 I agree something about that newspeed sounded great. While it wasn’t the best ever exhaust for making power it was a unique exhaust. Is that a milltek exhaust on your car now. Is that what the pictures are from. It looks like its just two sections and no X section.

There is a small part that connects in the center where the middle mufler/baffle was.

Yes, thats pics of my Milltek’s 55mm full exhaust.

I am thinking of changing the CATS out but not sure on the price of the JHM’s with dowpipes. $1250 now.

We all owe Captain a huge thank you. He truly is a legend and pioneer amongst us 4.2 guys.

X2. Anyone know where he is these days or the such. I wasn’t really around much when he was, so I only knew of him as he was leaving for the most part.

Also, anyone know who’s the donor car for the S5 project and where that stands?

This guy, forced89: http://audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=129.msg2713#msg2713

^nice. He’s not around much, but if my car was a couple states over, I may not be either. . .

Not being able to view profiles is really bugging me, arrgg

Cross section PIC of my Milltek exhaust.

How can I post PICs straight to the page instead of using links?

Doesn’t look like that has too performance in mind. You should get an exhaust shop to cut that out and throw in an xpipe

Yeah definitely need to get an x pipe in there, you can pick up a universal magnaflow 2.5 inch one of ebay

Exactly what I did. Throwing that in a long with some resonators as soon as I do my exhaust… Which is directly behind the release of the downpipes…

That cross section or x-pipe are the same neither makes performance.
Only reason is so one side of the engines exhaust doesn’t get backed up and one side of your engine
doesn’t get back preasure more then the other.

An x pipe doesn’t produce better flow or performance…?

This is not my department, but I seem to recall seeing a decent amount of evidence showing how an x-pipe does in fact improve performance

Thank you ^^

Let’s put it this way.

Countvohn said an x-pipe was important for performance.

No further comment :stuck_out_tongue:

or not. Seems there is a large difference.

Clearly one more exhamle of when the count speaks you should listen. So everyone knows this has been tested over and over. The results have always been the same. X pipe is better for performance. Not only is it better the X pipe helps create more flow and more power. Any exhaust that is not mixed say like dual stright pipes are goiong to be the worst at helping make and support power.

Just hit the photo tag at the top option bar and put your link it in. Milltek isn’t known for making great power. They are known for making great sounding exhaust. While the H pipe isn’t the best it deffinitly isn’t the worst either. Looks like it will deffinitly work better then stock

the truth? x vs. h isn’t a huge deal. i.e. you probably wouldn’t feel it unless you were a pro driver

HOWEVER on an NA platform, you can’t afford to throw free hp down the drain by making the wrong decision. You want to ensure you take care of ALL of the little pieces.

That’s why you don’t get a necked down exhaust or downpipe. That’s why you don’t get an exhaust without a crossover. That’s why you don’t settle for 2.125". That’s why you don’t settle for an exhaust that everyone says is good, but that has a bunch of sharp bends making it inefficient as hell.

All these things add up, so pay attention, be patient and make the right choice once. Buy nice or buy twice.

p.s. ChrisK’s point about keeping the motor better protected by having the most efficient exhaust possible is also very key and should be a big motivator.

LOL dammit saki!!! I typed up an almost IDENTICAL post to yours and got the “someone already replied” warning.

I’d post it but it would be completely redundant lmao.
