Since I’ve had the car its had a little bit of a extended crank before starting. I have allready changed out the fuel filter. Any other test I can do or actions to take?
define extended crank? Every s8/s6 i have heard has a little 2 second whirrup before firing. They dont start like the 4.2.
But also if the fuel pumps dont prime it will take even longer. For example if u open the pass door and turn the key it will take longer, rather than the normal way.
Seems like a good 3 to 4 seconds.
When you open the driver door do you hear the fuel system prime? Should sound like a half second bzzZZT
I always hit start w/o my foot on the brake and wait until the fuel pump stops before actually starting it. Makes a diff in cranking time for sure.
IMO, and if I am incorrect, apologies ahead of time…
On the AV, it cycles the starter like 10x prior to starting. My engineering mind tells me it is in order to prime the oil circuits.
I assumed this to be similar to our 5.2’s. Mine cycles about 4-5x prior to starting (after I hear the fuel pumps buzz when opening the door)
Try this. open the door. Key the car on but don’t start it for 45 seconds. If the car starts right away or within 1/2 the time your expecting it to. Its just the fuel system prine and ECU warm up before key up. Its normal and can take a bit longer in colder temps as the throttle body 02 sensors and coil packs all run off the ECU.
If you still get the issue you might want to check the bleed back valve and log the fuel pressures at the rail. Usually when you see this its a bleed back issue. How to check that is if the top part isn’t helping hit the start button let it go for 2 cranks stop and hit start again. If that helps and if you can start the car again shortly after driving the car with a short crank that might be the issue.
