So my fans sound like a 747 is about to take off 90% of the time. I used to have an issue of overheating when idle and in drive but not in park (weird I know) anyone else experience this ?
Its always good to check for codes to make sure there are no issues with the car but keep in mind when you have the AC on or the defrost the front fans will come on and if its hot and the AC is on the fans will come on full blast. And since you can’t turn off the climate control for the car it would make sense that the AC might have almost always been on.
So no codes first thing I check for, however today the car started blowing hot air and well you know the drill turn on the heat and the car cooled down.
So the heat issue is there so I’m thinking potentially water temp sensor or thermostat especially because the issue is intermittent and depends on the outside temperature. By the way it’s 98 -105 degrees outside
Well car started to overheat while driving around 100 in this Texas heat of 103. Trying to figure out what exactly could it be? I’m ordering coolant sensor thermostat and fan switch to put on next week. Car can’t even idle with AC over 7 minutes
Fans seems to ALWAYS be on with AC or without AC. to be honest they’re are so loud that majority of the time that i go through the drive thru i have to yell so the person taking my order can hear me. Their so loud that people ask me if everything is ok with my car in the parking lot. This is with AC or without.
My car started doing this on Saturday. Sunday I drove like 30 miles, and on the way back while following the misses, we were up around the low triple digits when I started to get a hiccup on cylinder 4 again. Next day, Monday, I’m on the way into the office and my car is overheating like crazy. Dropped car at the shop earlier today, but yeah, look for the car to start overheating sometime soon if the fans are pumping like that…
I had a similar issue back when I had my old A6 and it turned out to be the coolant temp sensor. The car sounded like it was turbine powered and was embarrassing to drive that’s how loud it was. There were no codes being thrown and no indication on the temp gauge that the car was overheating. The only difference in your case is that the AC is blowing hot.
I honestly don’t know if this can be changed easily without removing the intake manifold though because of how far back it is and how little space there is. Maybe someone else with more experience with the 5.2 can chime in. If it’s possible without removing the IM, it might be worth the 20-ish dollars to give it a try.
Just bought a thermostat yesterday the stealership had one in stock. I’ll be buying a coolant temp sensor as well soon just to cover all the P’s and Q’s when it comes to the coolant system. Replaced the coolant reservoir about a year back as well.
Just called the shop and they said they don’t think it’s the sensor in this case. Said they test drove it a bunch to see if they could replicate the issues after changing thermostat (reg overheating) and the coil/plug/connector for cyl 4. So hopefully, good to go.
my bud’s car did this recently - his fan died and it was overheating… needed a new fan, something like $1,300 new but found only used one in country luckily
