Exactly if you break off a piece without soaking it carbon collection depending on how old it is will be very hard. The chemicals you soak the valves in is designed to break down the carbon.

It seems like a good idea to continue putting in more and more data on what issues RS4 owners should be looking for or at as the car gets older.
pinging issues on stock motors has been an issue from day one. Another issue that has been an issue with the Rs4 is failed or failing injectors. Having a bad injector can cause all kinds of issues. From pinging issues as some have fixed by just putting in new injectors to missfires from lean misfires issues to terrible performance.
A good read here. What you can see in the thread below is FACTUAL data on how bad your injectors can be off and you still have a car your driving every day.

Copied from my post on AZ with a few extra details
-Injectors (proven to show degradation in flow & spray pattern with age/mileage)
-HP fuel pumps (there is a new revision for these)
-Too much crankcase pressure due to failing PCV system (I’m going to start a separate thread about this topic)
-Vacuum leak (we have two separate vacuum systems…3 if you count the crankcase. Each of them operate at different vac levels)
-Failing SAI system (specifically the solenoid under the manifold that controls it)
-Failing aux vac pump (this I’m not too privy on. The pump is connected on one side to the vac system that controls the IM flaps/sai/airbox/exhaust flaps. The other side is connected to the fuel system via housing underneath the rear under tray. I haven’t taken this apart to better understand it, but there’s a filter on that vac pump that was very dirty on my car. I can’t imagine clogged filters improving performance)
Thanks koolade, very interested in the info you and FWP have to provide about the PCV work youve been doing. It would be nice not to have to worry about the OE piece of shit failing.

Koolade9 again its good to have you jumping in to help the community. You always put out good stuff it will be interesting to hear more from you on this. I think as we have seen too many people dont understand how now on the FSI cars you need to be aware of more issues that need to be added to your maintance regimen
I just wanted to expand on my research on just how impornant injector maintance is. Over the past few years we have been hearing about this silent issue. quitely in posts all over the forums we have all seen posts on people replaceing injectors to help with missfies or power loss issues. It happens so randomly that I dont think it ever got real mainstream attention.
Here is independent testing of a set of RS4 injectors with just 60k
This is a stock car with 60k. After the cleaning and maintaince you can see that 5 of the injectors were showing a significant improvement in flow one of the injectors was dangeriously low in compairason
The trend seems to be showing more and more that injector cleaning might not be a bad idea. This independent testing and Komseh seem to match up. Ill search for more testing but due to how not many people are aware of this I dont think mainstreem testing is the norm.

Saki, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Euro shops start getting ASNU machines so they can do this. Fuel injector health is too critical in the DI engines. Easy profit for them as I see it.
