Fatbody 4.2

so update, got a new chip the other day (thanks to the count).

made good progress on the emissions front, I’m passing 6/8 readiness tests now, which is enough for ma emissions (O2 and evap are failed, I think O2 just hasnt set yet because I havent driven the car)

I do have a few random misfires, mostly on bank 2… which makes me think my old camshaft adjustor codes are coming back to bite me in the ass. I’m gonna try an italian tune up soon, and if that clears up the emissions it’ll be time to try for a sticker.

Big thanks to countvohn for pushing the new chip out for me, if all goes well I’ll be replacing the camshaft adjustor, fuel filter, broken trans mount and wiring in a clutch position sensor, then taking the car to the track finally.

Great to hear you staying the course. I loves a fast C-chassis car, hope it works out for you.

and a bump because I love this pic!

Man beem, I love this car!

seriously…I want to buy it. Wonder how hard it would be to get it registered etc. I think it has some tune/emissions problems.

thanks guys, yeah there were a few issues with emissions and tuning around it (I have no cats, no rear O2s, no sai). The revision I just got took a huge step forward though, I believe once I figure out the misfires it should be all set to pass emissions.

Awesome! That was good of the Count to get you going.
Does this mean you are keeping the car?!

possibly for a while, it needs some more nwork so I may slowly fix it up over the summer then list it for sale and sit on it for a while until I can get a good price.

Selling it would put me in a much better finacial spot, I could pay off my Jeep and my insurance would drop about $150/month. We’ll see though, I don’t see myself investing a ton of time/money into it (blower/nitrous, RS6 body kit) like I had in the past but its still a fun car.

so drove the car around a bit, seems the cam adjustor is the source of the misfires, it only misfires at idle during warm up, once warm the idle sits nice and smooth

my understanding is that there are different adjustment maps for cold and warm motors, so maybe the adjustor can’t reach that setpoint?

for reference here are the codes:

16684 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
16690 Cylinder 6: Misfire Detected
16691 Cylinder 7: Misfire Detected
16692 Cylinder 8: Misfire Detected
17930 Camshaft Adjustment; Bank 2: Malfunction

Kinda dreading this job, parts alone are about $700
