Ferrari LaFerrari

I dunno wtf Ferrari was thinking when they came up with that name of their newest Enzo replacement, however it doesnt matter because the car is that good!

Yeah, one of the family businesses partners went to the customer preview at the factory a month ago. $1.5, many hundred k deposit, and a leasing scheme to ensure the cars aren’t bought for speculation. Not sure how much was said in Geneva, I have some emails I haven’t opened title “laFerrari”, the name is just too much.

The big thing is they wanted to make sure the Macca P1 was getting ousted from the spotlight, it seems the boys in Maranello are timing their announcements and releases carefully…funny now this rivalry extends beyond F1.

Yeah two emails at basically the same time lol. One from Ferrari, one from McLaren

"Dear JSpazz,

LaFerrari debuts in Switzerland at Geneva International Motor Show

Combining the highest performing V-12 ever placed in a Ferrari road car, with the Formula One derived Ferrari HY-KERS electric hybrid drive system, the limited edition LaFerrari was introduced today in Geneva.

Only 499 examples of the revolutionary supercar will be built. LaFerrari’s bodywork is constructed entirely from ultra-lightweight carbon fiber using the same production methods that are used for Ferrari Formula One cars. LaFerrari features active computer-controlled aerodynamics, braking and dynamic control systems which are also integrated with the hybrid drive system. The electric drive motor of the LaFerrari hybrid system provides extremely high levels of low speed torque, allowing the gasoline V-12 engine to be optimized at higher speeds. The result of this combination drive system is a seamless delivery of exceptional power from rolling off the line to LaFerrari’s incredible top speed of more than 217 mph."

"Dear JSpazz

The final piece in the McLaren P1™ unveil took place yesterday at the 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva, when we presented the production-intent model in front of the world’s media. The car, finished in striking Volcano Yellow, is little changed from the design study which we unveiled in Paris six months ago, and was presented by McLaren Group Executive Chairman, Ron Dennis CBE and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Sergio Perez. The pair, in their first official public appearance together, were joined by BBC Sport’s Formula 1 presenter Lee McKenzie.

To view the McLaren press conference with Ron Dennis, Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez and Lee McKenzie, please click here.

We designed and developed the McLaren P1™ to be the best driver’s car in the world on road and track and rewrite the rule book. This has been achieved through the distillation of our 50 years of race-winning experience and expertise. And performance is a key factor with the McLaren P1™, with Ron Dennis explaining: ‘The McLaren P1™ is all about being the ultimate car for road and track, and our goal is to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in sub-7 minutes.’

To recap the impressive stats, the McLaren P1™ is powered by a substantially revised 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine coupled to a lightweight electric motor to produce a combined output of 916PS and 900Nm of torque. This combination gives instant, and relentless, acceleration which sees the sprint to 100km/h in less than 3 seconds, and on to a top speed of 350km/h.

The electric motor also offers completely emission-free driving for a distance in excess of 10km. The compact twin-powerplant is mounted to the carbon fibre MonoCage chassis, which tips the scales at just 90kg. With carbon fibre used for all body panels, and featured extensively within the cabin, the overall weight is kept to a minimum - dry weight is just 1,395kg. The ‘shrink-wrapped’ design of the McLaren P1™ is shaped to optimise aerodynamics, and through the large active rear wing and front aero flaps, can generate up to 600kg of downforce from 257kmh (161mph).

The revolutionary RaceActive Chassis Control (RCC) and bespoke Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres allow for cornering forces of 2g, while being subjected to 600kg of downforce, but without a compromise to the executive saloon car-like ride and handling when travelling at lower speeds. Also, a brake system developed with technical partner Akebono, never used on a production road car before, uses technology tried and tested in space to provide race car-like stopping performance.

The McLaren P1™ will prove to be a true statement of exclusivity with an extremely limited production run of only 375. The first lucky customers will start to take delivery later this year, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of McLaren."

Gorgeous car. The paint finish on the exotic Italian cars are sex.

Great looking car, but I am still wondering who came up with the name. I heard there are 2 guys in my region that are getting one. My hope is that one ends up at Cars and Coffee…

Word is there’s a dozen for the GTA, and that that is only half of what was requested. I don’t get it!

Is this basically an F1 car with some trimmings to make it road legal and a bit more comfortable? I’d love to see a head to head around Fiorano. No doubt the F1 car would be overall faster but it would be interesting to see how close this gets.

I wonder how this would match up vs a UR TTgallardo in the quarter. obviously it was meant for the track but just curious in terms of pure acceleration.

Also wonder what UR could get out of it with turbos and battery pack upgrade

Not a fan of the name, but if I had one I’d have to duct tape my boner to my leg every time I walk through my garage

The seat (custom for the driver) is fixed, the pedal box and steering wheel moves. Weird.

FWIW, I’d rather spend the money on one MP4-12C, one 458 Italia, one GT3, one ZR1, one R8 V10, one big-ass car hauler rig and a mechanic. I’d take 4 friends on a two-week jet charter blitz around the US hitting 5-6 major tracks for lapping (hmmmm, let’s say Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Infineon, NJMP, the Glen) then spend the last weekend at the USGP.

Then I’d sell it all except the GT3, and pick up a McLaren P1…lol.

Ya that sounds awesome, but the person that buys this car can afford to buy all that stuff without giving up the Ferrari. Hell he might even have his own private jet.
