My link is to encourage the purchase from ecutool.com as you’ll have access to everything, and more importantly, people on here have successfully used it so if you have any troubles, help is not far away.

I have the Bentley manual running fine in XP mode which is unfortunately only available in Win7 Pro and Ultimate.

If you have a copy of XP on a disc and Win7 Home Premium, you can fully geek out and use a virtual machine (such as vmware) to install a copy of XP “within” Win7 instead of Microsoft’s XP mode.

I would highly recommend the full version of vcds if you can swing it. They have fantastic customer support and have helped me out on a number of occasions.

he’s not JHM tuned…or he’d have had a big JHM sticker, or JHM writing slathered all over it

really does make you wonder though…how many people buy cars that are tuned and don’t even know. Imagine you were tuned for 93, then bought the car and ran 91 all the time?

When I sold my B7 S4 with JHM 93 on it, I kept trying to get the dealer to confirm with the wholesaler if he wanted me to ‘untune’ the car. JHM wanted the hardware back anyway, so I was about to, when he said to just leave it. Turns out he (wholesaler) kept it as his personal car. I wonder though…how often people don’t take that step and just sell it with the tune?

bangoman, I’ll bet a coke you’re GIAC tuned in some way. The tune that people never notice is almost always GIAC lol.

Go do a log of 003 020 021 from 2k to 7k in 3rd on a flat road tomorrow if you can and email me the log. I’ll see if there’s other parameters to log that will tell us more. We’ll see if there’s anything that matches with other GIAC tuned cars I’ve logged (a few)

So as I understand it, the ebay knock-offs are hit or miss sometimes? Would rather just pony up a few bucks more and get a “reputable ripoff” from JHM, unless I’m misunderstanding the info from bangomans post and wolf’s warning.

All software/how-to’s are included or downloadable though? Just want to make sure I understand how to clear codes and data log for the future. JHM says they’re designed for XP and sometimes vista. I guess my 7 laptop is no bueno, unless I install a dual boot OS for tuning haha. Maybe I can dig up an old laptop in the attic, i think I had one running xp/vista.

the ebay cables are fine…you just have to use the rosstech shareware I believe, which is very limited

the ecutool.com knockoff includes pirated software and gives full access to everything.

genuine article cables (around 350) are best of course, but on a budget, considering most use this thing once a year, many opt for ecutool.com

The guys at Ross tech should offer a light version that includes the cable and allows you to do basic coding and logging, but cut some stuff out and charge $100 for the whole package. People wouldn’t buy that instead of going the ecutool route

If I ran a shop or something, I would have no problem paying full price for it, but for the average consumer, it doesn’t hold that kind of value.

Saki, I remember when I posted the links to the free download on audizine back in the day and some douche from ross tech posted about how they put a lot of money into developing it blah blah blah and then the posts were promptly removed by a mod

Well, after a day’s delay at the hands of US CBP, my ECU arrived at JHM at noon EDT and was shipped out just now at 7pm EDT. Yes, their lack of presence on the forums is annoying, but rest assured they’re still gettin’ the work done. I still haven’t heard back if they found any other tunes on there. Whatever, hopefully I’ll be up and running again by the end of the week. And ready for the spring 1/4 mile season.

Actually it looks like it was more like 5 hr lol. The ECU is waiting for me at Fedex, however, I’m working til midnight :(. I’ll get it installed tomorrow. So excite!

I sent mine down on Monday. Paid $70 for overnight shipping so that it would arrive Tuesday morning before 10:30am local time at JHM. I dropped it off at Canada Post who picked it up and then sat on it for a day before handing it off to FedEx. For a short while, I was freaking out because Canada Post was saying they gave it to FedEx whereas FedEx was saying they never got it. Great. Anyway, long story short, it would seem Canada Post found it, properly handed it off to FedEx who shipped it overnight and it arrived this morning at JHM (albeit a day late. FedEx is contacting Canada Post so that I get a full refund). I’m currently in-between contracts so I need my car for interviews so I hope they turn around quickly on mine as well. I asked Keaton if he could ship it back using overnight shipping. We’ll see…

I used FedEx all the way. I would have had it yesterday if it wasn’t for US customs LOL. Axel Did you have to fill out some FCC form for customs?

To send it down, I just wrote “Automotive ECU for repair”. That’s what I did last time as well and neither have given me any issues. My issue was with Canada Post.

I wasn’t so lucky. 2 days and I still haven’t heard back from JHM. Hope they’re not having any difficulties with my ECU.
