Finally made it to E-Town test & tune on Wednesday April 15th

After a long winter of waiting, convinced myself and a couple of my closest friends to haul ass and get to the track for a little drag racing. As I posted last year I wasn’t happy with the times the car ran. It was a combination of myself not focusing and the track/weather conditions on that faithful August evening. So, we get to the track close to 6pm due to getting caught up at work and a little miscommunication “that’s what friends are for” lol. Go thru tech inspection and told the helmets are outdated. I run to the boutique pick up a helmet and back to tech and sit there waiting for another inspection. Finally get approved after being grilled for a few minutes, ok it’s not like we did I it on purpose. We find a spot to empty out my friends GTI "He wanted to get some weight out of the car, about 30lbs, he thought it was 200lbs hehehe. Then we finally get to the staging lanes. Well, two and half hours later we finally jump in the cars and get ready to go down the 1/4. I was in lane one so I get to run first. The air feels great and everyone’s scrambling to get themselves prepped to GO!! First run since August of 2014 against a custom supercharged 350whp Pontiac Fiero GT that weighed 3100 w/ driver. I thought I was going to get smoked although I really exist wanted the S4 to run better than last year. We go at green and by the end of the run a .09 difference in ET. I was hyped up and truthfully I still am after two (2) days. I will post all the three time slips as soon as I get a chance but here are a couple of videos from the other night.

The first run the explanation on the video tells you what’s going on. The second video with the mustang was my worst run of the night a 12.6 to a 12.9 but the lack of time had more to do with my decisions or lack there of than the car. It still felt good to beat that beast next to me although I happen to like Stangs " have an 86’ in my garage" but felt I should have at least been in the 22.3-12.4 range in that run if not better. BY THE WAY, THANKS FOR THE INPUT YOU GUYS HAVE GIVEN IN THE PAST AND HOPEFULLY THE FUTURE IVE LEARNED TONS FROM MANY OF THE MEMEBERS ON AR…
PS. How do I get on the LIST…?
I know I have to get you the timeslips first but do I do it or someone on here…?
Have an great day all…!!!

Hey thanks, I’ll check out the link.

Those are great Stg 2 numbers for APR on the B8.5!

12.1 @ 113 is just an awesome pump gas luxury car daily driver. Impressive.

Thank you gentlemen I was stoked myself. Now I’m wondering if the CPS will help make it faster or rather keep it more consistent. Reminds me, DROP did you ever get to the track after the Alpha install? Keeping the 93 tune don’t want to switch back and forth. Also, if throwing some high octane in the tank will do anything to keep the tune at its peek performance parameters.

Very nice! Especially with a 2013+ and no tranny tune…

Cps won’t make the car faster, especially in those conditions…

Get lw rotors… What’s your wheel/tire weight?

Exhaust will get you a little… Race gas…

I think apr’s upgrade that’s about to hit will help… ;D

Tire/wheel weight: I’m guessing around 51.5… Tires specs 255/35/19 say 28lbs for Pole-S04 + 23.5lbs for HRE FF01
19x9’s
I’m debating between spending the $$$ for CPS or exhaust but I want the car to be quiet believe it or not.
I’m looking into rotors and pads since I’m going bonkers with the squealing but holding off on this mod.
The most important at the moment is to get APR’s TCU Tune and if there’s any upgrades coming up for the ECM.
As for racegas, how much would it help the 93 tune. Probably keep everything running as programmed with less timing pull and boost dump? You’ll have a lot more experience with this since you’ve most likely tried it… I going by twenty five year old theory and what’s worked for me in the past with other simpler vehicles…although rules of physics etc are still pretty much the same in the last few decades…lol
Thanks and cheers

Whoo great improvement. Wow that 60 foot tho. Mess that up and you should just go park the car that made a big deal.

I live my Jhm lightweight rotors. You wouldn’t think rotors would help that much but they really do. They are worth it.

Yes you’re 100% on point with that…so close yet so far away…lol. Would the deep stage have accounted for that because I didn’t feel the car spin at the line but twitched a little when it shifted into second gear… Yea although I’ve been putting it off that’s going to have to be next (rotors). For certain though I didn’t have it together on the third run, smh

Very cool

Prime time,
If I start adding more mods, which would would you recommend to do first. I’d like to keep the car as much a sleeper as possible. So exhaust would be further down the road and would only be catback if any at all. Don’t want downpipes or anything that’ll make the car ridiculously loud, been there done that. Besides its my daily driver . How much of a gain would we get in the 1/4 with the lighter brake rotors? CPS would keep things more consistent, correct? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. There’s always room for knowledge especially coming from people with more experience, I’m all ears…!

As far as race gas on the 93 map, I don’t think it’s really worth it. You shouldn’t be bleeding off any boost on 93. If you have decent gas and conditions, you’re not going to see much of a bump in timing either (the only reason I can think to run race gas on a 93 map). It would just be extra safety margin, and maybe a few HP at best. If you are thinking about going this route, I would log your timing before you do it. If it looks good, there is no reason to in my opinion.

As far as mods… If you aren’t after an increase in sound, waiting on an exhaust is probably a good idea. Every exhaust is either overpriced, a POS, or both.

LW rotors versus a cooling system really depends. I’d personally do the cooling system, but I live in much hotter climate. Regardless, a cooling system is a good idea on any stage 2 car. It really comes down to better 60’ times and maybe a slightly faster car overall with the rotors compared to a more consistent car with the cooling system. If your current brakes are bothering you, that may be a good (less expensive) place to start.

The fact is, outside of a stage 2 tune/pulley, every mod only adds a small amount of power. An intake is worth doing as it is cheap, enhances the S/C whine, and probably adds as much power as anything. Intake, exhaust, test pipes/HFC, LW mods, cooling system… all help a little, but in my eyes there is not one must have over the others. It really just comes down to what is most important to you.

Thank you very informative, jran. There’s some decision making to be made on my part. I try to choose wisely before I start dumping money, best bang for the buck and what compliments the mods car already has. I appreciate your input I’ll keep you’ll updated on next move. Cheers

Here’s one more video my friend sent me the other day. I’m getting stuff peacemeal over here :smirk:
