I think it’s getting as much coverage and hype due to the unusual circimstances. Full moon equals high tides. There will be a total of three high tides in the NY Harbor / LI Sound region during this extended storm. Add in the high pressure system and the water will not be able to recede back out to sea like it normally would. This equals flooding.
Add in heavy rain and sustained winds of 80+ mph for over a 24 hour period and you have a mess. Basically, the rain will saturate and soften the hell out of the ground, now tress are way more susceptible to uprooting. A strong gust can send a tree over. Now because we will have sustained winds for 24-48 hours at those speeds, trees (a lot of them) will be going down. Which sucks because they take the power lines with them. Nobody likes to be without electricity for more than a day or two, imo. They are estimating 7-10 days worst case.
The flooding along the shores will suck. No one wants feet let alone inches of water in their homes.
So while I agree the media loves to hype these things, this storm has the POTENTIAL to be costly, annoying and deadly for some of those without the physical or financial means to prep or move to a safer area.
In addition, over hyping covers the politicians asses so that’s a main driving force I’d imagine.
I don’t think LI/NYC residents will know the impact until later this afternoon and into the evening. That’s when things are allegedly going to get interesting here.
