Looking for a B8.5 S4 with a 6speed manual and sports diff + B&O options - seems like finding a needle in a haystack at this point. May need to sell my car privately so I can purchase from a private seller, but didn’t feel like dealing with tire kickers.
My reach goal is a 991 Carrera 4S, also was looking at 997 Turbo manuals. I’m still torn. I will miss the RS dearly, just looking for a change. I’ve had mine since November 2011.
Leaning heavily towards the S4 though, I just want a newer car with newer tech, and I like what the aftermarket offers for the B8/B8.5 S4.
Really? Can you guys elaborate a bit as to why the DSG is a better option? I’m not completely opposed to it, just want to hear your experiences. It’s crazy, I never realized how rare it is to find a 6speed manual with the sports diff, and then add the B&O on top of that… impossible. I REALLY want a nogaro edition, seems most are DSG though… there is only 1 manual for sale on autotrader, and it is a private seller.
Call me a purist I guess, I just always preferred a manual transmission, haven’t had an auto since my first TT auto Supra about 13 years ago.
manual is slower, DSG is faster
manual is more cumbersome, DSG is easier
manual has more maintenance costs (about $3,000 for a clutch job every 4-5 years if you can drive, or every 2-3 years if you can’t), DSG is pretty solid for the newer year B8s (2012+ I believe)
manual will have worse resale, as 80% of buyers want DSG
All around, DSG makes way more sense. I get the whole manual thing…I have driven manual Audis since 2004 myself, however I am not someone who is going to throw a fit over an automatic especially if it works very well.
I took the plunge and bought a DSG car. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it because I always had that mentality of “manual or nothing”. I can honestly say that I am really digging it so far.
Manual mode with the flappy paddles gives me enough control when I want it, S mode is great when I want to drive fast, but feeling lazy, and Drive is great when I am just going A to B.
