FSI Carbon Cleaning DIY & I/M removal instructions

I CANNOT take credit for any of the attachments. These were provided to me a long time ago by a guy named Tim Miller (SilverRS4). Real nice guy and his documents helped me out when I did my first CC. He also offers I/M P&P work but I’ll start a new thread about that topic so we can discuss it.

Here are the attachments, hopefully this helps the community or those who may have been intimidated to tackle a carbon cleaning without some instructions. These instructions in conjunction with the other carbon cleaning threads other members provided should be a great resource.

Feel free to chime in, edit, comment, correct the documents. It’s a good base to start with and I found it pretty straight forward the couple of times I had to reference it.

Damn it, the attachments are too large. Anyone want to help me out with posting these. I’m sure there is an easy work around I’m either forgetting about or something…? I guess worst case I can do screen shots and post them in here.

Screen shots: I will replace with attachments if I figure it out later. 19 total screen grabs, here they are in order

Sorry for the choppiness, the snipping tool I use isn’t all that flexible and I had a little bit of trouble.

^no worries, great info either way and that’s what really counts. Thanks for the info & the post.

I’m guessing this is a PDF from the bentley manual?

Thanks.

Correct, I have the EBahn Bentley DVD as well but figured this mocked up (comments further explaining things) version would be helpful.

Wow this is very easy compared to the V10. No tough fuel line bolts to get to.

I’m hoping to make a DIY for RS4 carbon cleaning this spring. A few generous local guys have volunteered

generously volunteered to help? Or to let you fuck with their RS4?

hahaha I thought about the same thing. I just want to know how you’ve run into a S6 owner and several RS4 owners know that are cool with a 19yr old pulling off their intake manifold (what most people would consider MAJOR work). I’m not doubting your ability or skills, as the job isn’t that bad in the scope of things, still it’s just bewildering/comical in my mind. You should go sell seashells at the beach as a summer job if you’re that good.

lol harsh. I don’t expect to be paid, just helping other members/the community.

^ I wasn’t knocking that they should be paying ya at all my man. I was just saying that individuals that I know with cars like that wouldn’t hand them to me to pull apart stuff regardless of what I’ve previously done. Most people with RS’s typically think the dealer is the ONLY one who could possibly understand how the seatbelt clicks into place, much less anything else.

The comment about the seashells was saying that ya must be a good salesman just in jest. As in you either know them well or you have a great way with words. Either way I want to see these DIY’s come to fruition even though I’ll never use them (most likely).

And shit. . . I still need to send you the “crank seal” you sent me back to ya. . . sorry about that. I’ve been done for a while but forgot to send it back as it got stuck by my pile of parts. I’ll try to get that back soon, but I’m going out on a limb and hope that no one else is dying to use it. I’m still mad I didn’t replace that with the motor out.

I did my CC this weekend. The guide helped me figure a few things out. Thanks.

I would like to add a few notes.

1 - I had to remove the oil filter/cover.
2 - make sure to retrieve the fuel line nuts after the slide down the line BEFORE you install the intake
3 - removing the rubber hood seal at the front of the engine bay will give you that little extra clearance.
4 - have a magnetic tool for retrieving dropped bolts…and when you drop them - they NEVER make it to the ground ;(

^ #2 bit me in the ass too.

I was all nice and meticulous in getting the IM cleared under the fuel lines and lined up without scratching anything. Then I realized the nuts had slid down past where I could retrieve them.

Why did you have to take the oil filter/cover out though?

The intake was hitting it some on the way out. I think it’s impossible to tweak the fuel lines a bit on the way out, though…and it was able to be reinstalled with the oil filter cap still on.
