Fuel pump left me on the side of the road.

A week ago my fuel pump went out and left the car dead on the side of the road. I had been feeling a slight miss when accelerating. No CELs were showing up so I didn’t think much of it. Then as I was driving the car suddenly started loosing power. As soon as I got the car pulled over, it died and would not restart. Still no CELs. I suspected it was the fuel pump because it was acting like there was no gas when I tried to start it and I could not hear the fuel pump priming. I replaced the fuel filter first thinking that maybe it was clogged but it was the pump in the end. Not a bad job at all. About 30 minutes for each. The hardest part is the unclipping the connections. I’m glad Audi was smart enough to give us an access panel to the fuel pump instead of dropping the tank.

do you access it through the back seat or something?

You lift out the back seat bottom and there is an access cover on the passenger side. The DIY on A4mods.com helped.

Ditto, mine went 2 weeks ago. Towed the car to my shop and it was up and running by the end of the day.

what was your guys miles when the pump went out??

97,600 km’s

99,000 miles

Now that I have the car running again after replacing the fuel pump and filter, the engine is extremely noisy. It’s tapping or clicking like it’s a diesel. It’s coming from both valve covers. It gets a little quieter as it warms up but it’s a constant clicking noise. It speeds up some as I accelerate. What would have caused that? I did try starting the engine multiple times when the fuel pump was dead and the engine would naturally stumble and die. My oil level is fine. The engine runs great and no CELs. It’s just really annoying.

It might be time for an oil change with filter.

You may have to take off the valve covers and look inside, it could be a lifter that is worn
