Fuel type question

Hey all. First post here. Figure there’s more chance of good technical advice so paying here after posting on AZ lol habiti guess.

Was at a Shell Station today and saw they had ethanol-free 89 octane gas. Started researching, but couldn’t find a definitive answer for our platform regarding ethanol-free fuel. I’m assuming 89 is not usable, but what about 93 ethanol-free or the Chevron 94 pure stuff? We have lots of marine fuel access here, and wondering if it’s worth finding and paying for?

Any links to threads i couldn’t find are welcome.

Thanks!

I don’t think a little ethanol is hurting performance or hurting the car long term. May even help

If you’re dead set against it, up here shell 91 has no ethanol I believe. Perhaps that’s also available down there somewhere in an audi suitable octane level (which 89 is not)

So all octane being equal, i.e. E10 vs pure, both at 93 rating, no real advantage or disadvantage, aside from the price per gallon?

Not really, since people buy ethanol fuels for their octane and cooling properties.

Making a statement about all octane being equal is essentially negating the use of ethanol.

I think ethanol is about 25% less efficient in terms of mileage, but at E10 that’s only 2.5% worse economy which most people won’t notice. It burns a little cooler. I guess you can say it’s lower potency since you need to burn more of it to get the same output.

On a related fuel note, I think I can get bottled 105 octane VP racing fuel in Reno, NV. They don’t seem to really distribute it in CA.

Thanks for the clarification. And Grats on the rocket fuel discovery lol.

This is very accurate. its not just mileage. ethanol is over 25% less efficient for power out put. It more resistant to knock but thats about it

So you can crank the timing and make more power than gasoline, obviously you need a custom tune to do this.

You’ll also need a hpfp upgrade for e85… Just put mine on ;D

Nice!!
We don’t have it over here, on previous platforms the stateside turbo cars always made 30+HP more than us with the same modifications using E blends.
