Nah, I was chasing a specific lap time so was working for the whole day (last time I was out). There’s a specific compression zone that I used to just somewhat coast over usually. But last time I was accelerating into it lol.
Glad I hit the lap time I wanted. I’ll dial it back next time I’m out.
Here’s a pic of the under tray that has a tab that’s been ground down haha!
I had Achtuning ask H&R what’s a recommended stiffer spring to use with the dampers and they came back with 50lbs heavier on each corner. Will try that and dial up the dampening too and see how it goes the next go around.
I feel like it had more of an impact than the apikol (front) rear diff mount. Is it life changing? No. I think the transmission mount had a bigger impact on shifting.
That said, the car shifts very crisply now. Much more direct. An example I can think of is when you’re applying power and you lift off, there’s no judder anymore. I’m happy with it. I’d imagine it would have similar effect on power. I haven’t tried doing the 5500 rpm launch with it yet though.
My xp12 fronts lasted over 6 track days but I had a set of xp20 worn only two track days… I don’t feel a big difference between 12 and 20, you can try a set of 12 if you think 20 wear out too quickly.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated. 6MT here and I have the transmission mount insert and spulen mount already, the rear diff inserts are awaiting install. With the former two they haven’t solved my transmission slop issue quite yet and I sometimes have trouble finding a gear on high G turns. I am hoping this finally fixes that (in combination with the others) but am not holding my breath. I’ll probably do the engine mounts next if this doesn’t get me there.
…and this is why I ignore any car being sold by a roadcoursesuperstar, and why I laugh at them when they say the dragstrip is harder on the car than the road course.
The damping won’t help, as the RSS only does rebound adjust (unless my memory serves me wrong).
If you can adjust bump in isolation, then yes, it can help with that.
FWIW I have the exact same problem. I’ve also bottomed out on my car (KW’s) and the resulting damage looks exactly like what you have shown.
It’s actually either the bump stops are too soft, or too short on these coilovers. The suspension travel should not get to a point where you can have contact between the body and a control arm–or worse, the under tray and the ground. I would take a look at how much shorter the RSS bump stops are compared to the OE.
But also, what ride height are you at? I’m at 25.5 and I have this problem. I’m looking to bring it up to 26.
Regarding Rob’s braking issue, only a rear bias will make the car feel unstable under braking. Using a more abrasive rear pad won’t address the issue. I think it has to be a different issue.
By using a more aggressive (friction) pad in the rear, it does tweak the bias, no?
What’s happening is that it’s too front biased right now (fronts dig in - rears can’t keep up so rear starts fish tailing). Need to get the rears to do more work = up the coefficient of friction.
That’s simply not the case for straight line braking. Read one of those handling cheat sheets. The car has electronic brake force distribution, which helps to a degree with classical track car setup rules.
It’s easy to test. If Rob ran OEM pads on front for a session he’d still feel his weird braking stability issue. It might feel worse if front-rear brake bias was the problem, which I don’t think it is.
Rob - you switch to street pads on the same rotors after each event? Do you clean them down with ammonia or some solvent when swapping pads?
I picked up a HANS III device for $519 on a 4th of July sale at Wine Country Motorsports. I went with the quick release style. This meets my safety goals when paired with the Recaro Spa seat, the rear seat cage and the 6 point belt.
There’s a few of us on the forum I think that go to Mosport (CTMP or whatever Ron Fellows calls it now). I used to go a lot on the bike 10-15 years ago, then the car, now it seems only a couple times a year. I’m scheduled for a bike day and a couple car days this year.
I just got back from a couple weeks in California. Geez, I want to try your tracks! Laguna Seca especially. There was an open track day the weekend we were in Carmel/Monterey, considered taking a rental Corvette or Mustang or whatever there but with the wife and kids, so it wasn’t really in the cards. Not sure if there’s another way to try the tracks there without going that route. Kinda thinking they might have an OBD transponder in the car anyway.
