GIAC Stage 2 1/4

Copy and pasted from Audizoo

Hey guys…

So had a very interesting trip to the track this evening. Was off from work today, didn’t have much to do and met some friends at the track for some Wednesday Night Time Trials…

Figured since I was going to hit the track and there’s been a lot of talk about the APR Stage 3 time with no exhaust, no interior, drag slicks and race gas I would do something similar. However it didn’t go 100% as planned. I ended up taking the passenger seat out, back bench and back of the back seat out also along with the spare and tool kit. Cut roughly 105lbs total out of the car. Driver was me, 230lbs.

Left Long Island at 4:45PM and runs started in Jersey and Englishtown at 5PM. Biggest mistake I ever made. Also didn’t realize I had a little too much fuel in the car and couldn’t switch to race gas right away. Ended up getting to Englishtown at 7:30PM! Terrible. I can’t tell you enough how much I hate NY/NJ traffic. Lol.

So… After going through tech I finally lined up for my first run.

GIAC Stage 2
93 file with 93 octane fuel
GIAC DSG Flash
AWE Catback
JHM LW Rotors
Roc Euro Intake
APR CPS
18x8 Winter Wheels with 245/40/18 Conti DWS Tires
(Wheels weighed 46lbs)

No front passenger seat, no back seat

So first run I ran with 10 miles to empty on 93. Here was the result. Also ran the Pbox in the car.

Time slip read: 11.800@116.24 with a 1.69 60’

DA on this run was +1200 I believe.

Same run Vbox read: 11.817@117.39

Now I was down to Approx 5 miles to empty. So I filled the car with 5 gallons of MS109 (105 octane) and let it idle with the new fuel for about 30 minutes. Finally at like 8:50 I was about to run again. This time I decided to run the race gas with the pump file since it was mixed with some 93 still. Ended up cracking off an 11.8xx@116.xx. Now I figured it’s to switch to race map and race gas is flowing and make the glory pass and snatch back the record. DA at this point had dropped a little below a 1000 and air felt good. Swing back around go to make another pass and track worker goes “sorry lanes close at 9PM. Whatever bracket cars who are waiting to run still are going and were closed for the night”

WTF

So now with 5 fresh gallons of MS109 and a B8 S4 with no interior I’m stuck with no track to run at. So I made a call to a buddy of mine who tunes LS’s in Jersey and asked if he was done for a Mexico trip for some Vbox 1/4 mile times to see atleast what she’ll do. At this point I knew that if I cracked off a good number I’d be pissed to say the least bc I couldn’t get a slip just a Vbox time that with taunt me.

Did 3 runs and this was the best one. Ready for this.

11.455@122.11. Fuck! Now I almost know I would have had the Stage 2 record back tonight if it wasn’t for my shit ass luck.

Also got a 9.789 60-130 and a 7.97 0-100 time. Bonkers stuff honestly. Car felt insane to be honest.

DA during these runs were about +400. Funny thing is how accurate the Vbox was on the 11.8 pump run at Englishtown and not only that but the street I ran on was more level than the actual track with less of a decline LOL…

Anyways Vbox don’t 100% count but the car did an 11.45@122 any way you look at it. Can’t wait to hit Atco in a few weeks and hot lap a little. Going to be exciting stuff.

The GIAC stage 2 cars seem very fast. not too sure about the ability to acheve that time but 100lbs removed would help. Until its done at the track its just bragraceing

It seems possible. Pulling the catback off and seeing how that effects the car would be interesting.

100 lbs is 100 lbs. It’s the equivalent of around a tenth and an mph usually.

This car previously went 11.56 so if it went 11.4x we shouldn’t be too shocked. That’s how weight reduction works.

However when we are benchmarking our German luxury cars it doesn’t make much sense to leave the power/heated/leather seats in our garage while we set benchmarks.

Interesting… Shame you didn’t get to do it at the strip… Can’t see the pics in the office so I looked on my phone… The blue line is the eleveation change of the road, correct?

So… when you run Richi today are you really going to use pump? Also, are you going to have the seat and such removed? You guys going to be able to video? Looking forward to seeing/hearing the results…

Switched back to pump on drive home from NJ last night. Interior going back in as we speak. Our cars will be the same specs.

WOW I read the hole thing wrong. I thought you copied someone else post and were reposting it. Now the post takes on a new meaning. That is impressive. If you can go 122 that will put a big dent in the case for the stage 3 kit.

Do you have any plans on pulling out the seats and other stuff again and trying to show the gains.

Hopefully we all leave the seats in. Last thing we need is that to be the new ‘norm’.

I much prefer when we all make fun of people for pulling seats and catbacks off.

Seats are not coming out again. It’s completely pointless- I just did it to prove a point and I’m pretty happy with a 122 trap lol. Car was moving but it’s not realistic.

My seats will never come out unless it’s to swap them to nicer ones, which I don’t think I would ever do… But boy the sports seats in the new S3 are fucking choice! Similar to my TTRS but they feel a little tighter and I love the look of the diamond pattern… Here are some pics from one at the dealer I deal with… Been haggling for the wife over some Q5’s… She insists on an SUV now, I wish she wanted a smaller car like the S3… lol

Pete, do you have sport seats in your s3?

Q5 3.0T is a sweet little ride and shockingly quick - picked one up for my wife in February and she loves it- especially enjoys catching the buzz-bombers by surprise @ a stoplight

Pete, Curious are you still on the same tune? GIAC do a beta tune for you?

cobrario, Yeah they are… They have a used SQ5 I’m trying to low ball them on… My wife just don’t appreciate cars much so shes fine with any Q5, but I’ll drive it some and would prefer the SQ5…

Auditude didnt you know your front LI. Where at? You, Mr. Wrong and I should meet up sometime. We are all pretty close to each other.

I’m on the production GIAC Stage 2 software, I actually just recently reflashed to the newest revision because I was on the V1 Stage 2 software for B8.5 forever. My old 6MT had this revised file but I never brought my dads car in for it.

Gotcha… Was curious as I always thought GIAC was out of CA… Didn’t know they were in NJ… Figured you guys were testing tunes? ;D

They are in Irving California

Things to note about the pbox run

  1. It measures final speed not trap speed. So your ‘trap’ isn’t a trap.
Final tends to be high by as much as 1 or 1.5 mph. The dragstrip run bears that out when compared to the pbox. So that makes the pbox run an 11.45@121, not 122

  2. As mentioned earlier 100 lbs of weight can get you around a tenth and an mph
That puts you down at about 11.55@120

Sounds about right. Based on the DA which was worse than last time the car appears to have picked up some punch since the record 11.56 run. You also weight more than tsivas so who knows what’s up with the car. Getting faster as it gets older. Updated file since the 11.56?

Edit… Just saw your post that it’s an updated file. So there you have it.
Stage 3 has its work cut out for it. Apr trapped 125 on 93 and 129 on race gas on the rs4 in great da in testing and claimed 500 whp. They appear to have then backed the rs4 kit off a bit because the first dyno we saw was only 450 whp on the pump file (with race fuel in the tank). And the only rs4 to hit the strip since was flying fatsauce who trapped 125…but that was in - 2800 feet of DA! In 0 feet of DA that would be around 121-122 mph.

I believe it’s backed off due to the fried piston rings issue high boost kits were having. The b8 should not ha e this issue so we could see the 3.0t do better than the 4 2 fsi with the kit (in customer hands…if they backed the kit off, they didn’t retest it in that form)

Hey Pete!!
Are you doing a private event at ATCO. If so I would love to join. We usually do Friday nights at island but to getting pretty crowded and some hot lapping with some good people would be fun. Can you Pm me details if still spots?
Th aka

AWE BBQ is today. Austin was in town for two days so we met up for dinner and went to the track haha. Only met him once before in person so was cool to talk in person. He’s an awesome dude. Honest and loves his job.

Exactly…If you have the database file you can get your trap by averaging the speed between 1260 and 1320 feet. 2 mph is about all you pick up that last 60’, i.e. 120 to 122mph, so average 121 is right.

Somethings wrong here. We should be fighting by now…
