I do feel lucky that we’re playing already. Whether by luck or by design, we avoided virtually all the damage that other area courses suffered this winter.
Anyone catch Jones’ chip-in yesterday? Pretty awesome shot to seal the win. Massive choke by Kuchar, though.
In other news, it’s Masters week!
Jones is pretty cool. I had him when I was a walking scorer for the tour at the Canadian Open in 08. He was good for a laugh. Bit his nails like a fiend. Only negative might be that he doesn’t give himself enough credit.
When we were done the round me and the three players went into scoring trailer and went through their cards. Little known fact, but you will NEVER hear of a PGA TOUR event player submitting an improper card based on a typo/transposition error because the walking scorer reviews their card with the player after the round before submission…and PGA TOUR SCORING also reviews the card vs. walking scorer record at the same time. There’s no chance all 3 of us are going to fuck it up, so that’s why you never hear about these situations that you have in major championships where guys sign an incorrect card and get disqualified (the majors each have a totally different scoring system as they are all individually run events: Masters=Augusta National; US OPEN=USGA; Open = R&A; PGA=PGA of America)
Anyway, the next week after the CDN OPEN was a split week on tour with Firestone being one of the events, and I think Vegas being the other. Obviously Firestone is top 50+RyderCup/President’sCup etc and Vegas is…everyone else.
Jones went 73-73 MC and after we had gone through that Friday 73, the tour official said to Jones ‘see you in Akron’. Jones handled it well…he gave out a big belly laugh and said ‘you think you can get me into the field?’ with a big smile on his face, to which the tour official apologised and they had a good laugh together. Jones was playing Vegas and at the time was nowhere near an Akron invite.
Earlier this week at SHO, one of the amateur’s caddies in Matt’s pro-am group on Wednesday said to Matt ‘you excited about next week’ (Masters). Jones had another self-effacing laugh about it, since he wasn’t (at the time) invited. Now he is. The caddie posted something about it on his twitter account with the hashtag #whoslaughingnow
Good info. I didn’t know the majors had different systems for reviewing score cards. I wonder why the PGA Tour uses a different system for the PGA Championship than it does for the regular events.
Edit: on second thought, PGA of America is probably a separate entity from the PGA Tour. So that may be the reason.
I don’t know much about Jones as a player, but the quip you mention from the amateur’s caddy seems like a pretty shitty comment to make. I mean, aren’t Pro-Ams invite only? You’d think it’s just common courtesy not to say something like that (whether the amateur or his caddy), even if you’re just joking around. In any event, it’s nice to see Jones get the last laugh.
yeah, PGA TOUR and PGA of America are entirely unrelated
PGA TOUR hates when people do what you just did lol. TV presenters and sportscasters do it all the time annoyingly.
Why is it a shitty comment? He literally thought Jones was in the field and made an innocent mistake. Not a lot of people understand the innerworkings of tournament fields. They just assume that because you’re a TOUR player you’re in every event, even the invitationals like The Masters. There’s only about 85 proper top players and 10 past champions in the field.

So pretty cool. One of members came in 3rd for the drive, chip, putt challenge at Augusta today. She’s a 14yr old girl, and obviously one hell of a player. She smoked the field in the driving challenge, but didn’t preform too well in chipping and came in 3rd. Still pretty awesome and so cool to see and cheer on.

Lol okay well that’s a different story. I thought it was some kind of intentional jab at Jones.

What speed do you think the greens are running at the Masters? I’ve heard 14.

yeah, usually 13 ish, maybe 14…but you will never know. The club won’t tell you.
It’s like JHM never dynoing their products…they will just let them perform because they know the games people play with dyno numbers (and in this case, stimpmeter numbers) is a load of bullshit. See previous page for an example lol.

It must be beyond brutal to putt on those greens. You really can’t grasp the undulation without seeing it in person. Though I think some of the pics you posted a while ago may have captured some of it.

Freddy is doing his thing again - seems like tradition by now. The only question is when he’ll collapse.
