yeah, they were crap.

they are fescue greens, fairways and tees. Basically like they have in the UK. That’s fine if that’s 100% fescue, but when you have other strains of grass sneaking in to the greens like poa annua, and bent grass, now you have a surface that is not all growing at the same rate. Poa grows quickly, and is very invasive. See all those spots on the greens? That’s the other strains of grasses.

At 6 am after you mow, the greens are like glass. At 4pm, the poa has grown much more than the fescue and bent, and now you have a bumpy surface.

If you didn’t think it was that bad, watch this…

I’m not in any hurry to see another major played there. I know the US Open is supposed to be the toughest examination of golf, but too many guys were winding up fucked for having hit great shots. All week. Like Jordan’s tee shot on 15 yesterday. And everyone’s tee shot on 16. And DJ’s 2nd shot on 18.

I didn’t mind the rest of the course. The bumpy greens are a waste though.

Pebble is very similar. Tiger, despite having great success at Pebble, stopped playing there each February because he found the bumpy greens were causing him to jam his putts, and then when they moved to florida for the southern swing, he would have problems adjusting. Lots of guys were in the same boat, but Pebble was too important financially for them so they just kept playing the pro-am.

It was great to see Spieth win - two majors at 21 years old is just incredible.

I feel for DJ, though - that missed 4-footer was a heartbreaker.

not tiger, not ernie, not faldo, not norman, not miller, not watson, not jack, not palmer, not player, not anyone…nobody had 2 at 21.

feels like the significance of this is being lost in the scuttlebutt to soothe Dustin Johnson (who inexplicably skipped the ceremony on 18 where the low am, the runner(s) up and the champion are honored)

My dustin johnson call early in the week almost came to fruition. Closer than the Tampa call!

^^ But you nailed it with your Masters call!

I agree that the significance of this is kind of getting lost. Spieth has set himself up for one hell of a career. It would be awesome if he and Rory develop a Jack/Arnie type rivalry over the next couple of decades.

yeah, I just said to a buddy that Spieth and Rory need to get paired together…and need to get in a big fight over something…in order to see a proper hate fuelled rivalry develop.

Problem is both guys are so nice. For them to be world #1 type players, they have to have a bit of nasty in them though, so there’s potential. You have to be slightly crazy to be that driven and that good.

That would be awesome .

Also thus might be old news but what is everyone’s thoughts on nbc to fox? I sometimes think fix us a little cheesy/fake with sports broadcasts but maybe that’s me…I am looking fwd ti the sharks honesty tho…

^^ we talked a little about that during the U.S. Open. I like Norman, and I like Holly, but I’m not much of a fan of anything else Fox did. Overall downgrade from NBC and Johnny Miller.

Anyone try to use the Hole 19 app for distances? I used it today for about 1.5 holes and deleted it from my phone. Awful - not worth your time.

And I played like shit - but always good to get out and swing.

I use golf pad. It’s world class. GPS based yardage. Touch the screen on the map function t9 get a yardage to the spot, and from the spot t9 the hole. Brilliant.
Here is a local course that hosts the tour most years. 18th hole at Glen Abbey for example. That spot is the tiger bunker where he hit the famous 6 iron.

I hit 6 iron on the green from there the other day when it was downwind. Front left area though (around 190 carry) . Going where he went is retarded. Easily another 35 yards of carry than me.

Here’s the app

Here’s my 6 iron shot on the green. Hopefully it gives persp3ctive to how far right of my shot, and how much more carry he had. I believe he flew it 220. They always say 216 but that was pin. He covered the pin I believe. Two guys watching asked me what I hit and when I told them they didn’t believe me. Lots of ‘no way!’ They just don’t get the difference in the angles between my shot and tigers… And they just don’t get that good players exist lol. They also though I was Dustin Johnson at first (I could hear them talking lol). I’m tall decent at golf and have a beard, so I get that about 5 times a year, especially at Glen Abbey since the tour plays there so visitors assume it’s always crawling woth tour players ('you look like Dustin Johnson’or ‘we thought you were Dustin johnson’). Usually from women.

Haha you must hate being mistaken for a murderer

That’s a pretty cool perspective from the right bunker - I can’t even imagine going for the green from there. In fact, I had to go back and watch Tiger hit that shot again. He actually flew it over the green, so it’s definitely closer to 220 yards. Pretty insane. I don’t think non-golfers can appreciate the difficulty of hitting a 6 iron 220 yards to the green from a fairway bunker (and mentally having to deal with the water).

Thanks for the app suggestion - just downloaded it.

Murderer is looking good.

Late tee times today will have a nice easy course. Rained all day, and stopping later afternoon. No wind. Someone will go really low today

Lots of low scores today - leaderboard is crowded as fuck.

How about Dunne??
