It was just announced that a Web.com Tour event will be at our club next June - should be big fun!

Looking at the topography of the course, I won’t be surprised if we end up with a TV tower virtually in our back yard.

PGA Tour officials recently toured the course and said that there was virtually nothing that needed to be done to the course to make it ready for tournament play, which was cool to hear.

I think I’m gonna set up a margarita bar next to the walking path from green to tee - could always use some extra cash!!

Seriously, though - plenty of volunteer opportunities to help out with the tournament - hoping I’ll get to be a part of that. And maybe I’ll host a viewing party - we’ll see…

that’s because it’s a nationwide tour event. They don’t usually alter courses.

They will run it dry for a couple of weeks before and let the rough get up a bit. When you play it, you’ll be shocked how far you hit the driver.

If you want a volunteer job, apply to be a walking scorer. Nothing else compares.

Of course you need to have a very good understanding of the rules of golf and golf etiquette, since you’re literally the group’s stats and scorekeeper, and are walking inside the ropes, 20 feet from the players all day. You track fairways, greens, score, and are a liason between the players and PGA TOUR RULES should they require assistance.

kind of like this although

  1. that’s an amateur at pro-am day she’s watching
  2. she’s in the wrong fucking spot. NEVER be on their line whether it’s behind them or in front of them. Get so their hat bill blocks their view of you.

I’ve done this about 50 or 60 rounds out there, and it’s awesome.

zcd - that’s really cool. I’d definitely try to fill one of the volunteer positions. Always neat to be a part of a golf tourney. I loved it when I worked at The Western Open back in high school (although that was a paid position).

sak - does the Tour still use Palm Pilots? I haven’t heard of them in years lol

haha I don’t know exactly what the unit is called but it’s in that pic

I’ve already volunteered to be a walking scorer - don’t know if I’ll get that job, but that’s definitely my first choice.

Sh*t got more serious on this tour when they did away with Q-School. It’s now basically the only way to get to the PGA Tour outside of getting sponsor’s exemptions and playing well enough to earn your way on.

Tour officials held an informational event last week at the clubhouse, and over 100 club members showed up, which was great. Good information was shared so that we all have an idea what to expect. One of our members was the driving force behind what became the “Nabisco Dinah Shore” LPGA Major event, and his experience is going to be a huge help, obviously. The Tour official said that what this gentleman helped create at that tournament became an example of “best practices” that other tournaments on other tours have since mimicked to excellent effect. We’re hoping to set new records for attendance AND for charity contributions for this tournament.

I spoke to the Pro Shop pros the other day and the thought is that the course record (64) will likely be broken, which would be cool. They plan to play it as a par 71, with a 505-yard par 5 being played as a par 4.

I’m just really looking forward to the whole experience, even though I’ll have to find other places to play my own rounds that week!

that course record will most certainly be broken unless something really weird happens. That tour is a smokeshow.

64? How old is the course? That seems kind of high.

The answer is complicated; read this:

The tournament will play the original 18-hole routing, which we play a few times a year. Otherwise it’s a 27-hole layout which means that tee times are always available!
