If you have the front bumper, and radiator/fan assembly removed to replace the main pulley with the JHM, I would recommend replacing your oil cooler 0-rings while you are at it. The only extra thing you have to do is remove the alternator and a bracket. It takes 2 0-rings and they cost about $3 a piece. I just replaced mine at 71K because they were dry, brittle, and leaking oil. I imagine that with 89K miles on your car, if they are not leaking, they probably will soon.
DEFINATELY do the injectors when you carbon clean… Remember, it’s “only” $600 with the core return - the Price new is about $130-$160 EACH and will perform worse than the flow matched rebuilt ones.
My advice; pull the injectors when the IM comes off for cleaning, let your mech take his time with the clean and wait on the rebuilt injectors to come back (I’d call to confirm the turnaround time first though), and install the spacers and IM along with the fresh injectors.
Now, having replaced 19 injectors now (service wasn’t posted when I started replacing 'em), BE CAREFUL of the little retention tab on the injector that holds the clip; the OEM ones are VERY brittle from all the under hood heat and they’ll likely, no probably will break if you treat it normally - treat it like glass. The whole injector will be useless as a core return if this tiny little nub of plastic breaks off…
Oil filter housing double O Ring is also a great idea while the IM is off as are the two sensor O rings in the valley while the IM is off. Maybe $4 worth of O Rings tween the 3.
Plugs & Coils wouldn’t be amiss either, although not an absolute necessity, it’s a really good idea.
I didn’t know that about the rebuilt injectors. I’ll have to ask, and it won’t break the bank to pay upfront, get the rebuilt injectors then get refunded later. Also, what’re the part numbers for the o ring sensors? And yeah, i’ll have them take a look at the plugs and decide when that will be done.
Yeah the injectors from JHM are the best way to go IMHO. espically when you see how far off “NEW” oem ones are. The idea of new ones sounds great but for some reason they never seem to be right. The prossess JHM goes though seems to be the magic path.
JHM will have all of the parts you need including the O rings and reseal kit. I think it comes with the JHM injectors. You would have to ask tho.
^Anyone know the answer to this? There’s a ton of part numbers for these little O-rings, and I’m not sure if they’re all the same or particular to their spots.
UPDATE:
Taking all the maintenance steps first BEFORE performance here, but I’m getting impatient!

New front brakes (pads + rotors)
Replace brake fluid
Transmission flush
Fixed bad aftermarket tail light assembly & hole in fender liner - The inner tail light piece brake lights aren’t lighting up AFTER going into reverse, otherwise they work properly. Isn’t that strange? Has anyone experience a similar issue with OEM lights?
Next week I’ll be taking it in for a fairly priced carbon clean, intake spacer installation, JHM reflowed injectors, separators, spark plugs and o-ring replacements. AND godwilling, with JHM holiday discounts, JHM custom exhaust w/ RS styled tips.[/list]
I don’t have it handy… It’s a double O ring though if that helps you locate it on the part diagram - they’re kindof Siamesed together side by side. Also, make sure to orient it the correct way; it’s flat on one side.
Great! Just ordered them and a new oil separator from one of the Audi OEM wholesale sites. Ordered a set of new spark plugs too… I figure I may as well get ahead of everything before it hits 100K miles, so really any major issues will be limited to HPFP, oil leaks and fingers crossed this never happens O2 sensors.
Hopefully JHM will give me a call when the reflowed injectors are back in stock, so I can get everything done (carbon clean, injectors, spark plugs, separator, o-rings, intake spacers) mid November then JHM exhaust in December.
Just wanted to give everyone an update: I said fuck it.
Out of insanity and good pricing on the carbon clean I took the S6 into a BMW garage who has some excellent reviews. Figured I’d give them the run down of everything and see if they’d take me on or steer me away. Turns out that they could take me on and accepted my joke about me being the odd 4-ring vehicle at their shop.
Thus far here’s all that we’ve done:
Carbon clean - shop said it was very bad, and was surprised the car wasn’t running bad… lol
Intake Spacers
New set of injectors
New set of spark plugs
Oil separator
New oil gaskets in oil filter housing
Coolant expansion tank - noticed coolant leaking down the side, so replaced it and a coolant line
New belt - shop noticed cracking and a piece missing… oops
I can’t tell if I’m being fucked, but it does seem reasonable that the coolant tank could’ve cracked and the belt was due after seeing previous issues with both on here. Unfortunately, during replacing the coolant tank the Y-piece broke which costs a fortune for something so little. And I’m told that I may need to replace the AC condenser if they can’t get the bolts back in. I figured if I’m this far in, I may as well have the JHM exhaust installed.
All-in-all, I balled out and I’m not paying too much in labor fortunately.
My coolant tank cracked twice so more than likely, that’s probably the source of the leak.
On the note of the y piece, mine broke too and I just replaced it with a brass T-Fitting from autozone. Had it on for over a year now and it’s worked no problem. I didn’t want to pay all that just to repair that once piece either.
