The best part is your with the wife or GF its like 10 below freezing and you start to crack open the window and they are like… WHAT ARE YOU DOOING… Your like… youll see in a min…and you just stab it and start laughing… A good woman says…that sounds nice…now roll up the window… A bad woman says…what was that all about and rolls eyes…that’s when you pull over the car and let her out saying babe… there are a lot of tunnels between here and where we are going… call a uber…
Yeah, everything from eBay. There was a RS steering wheel in black stitching w/ air bag for a decent price. Negotiated the seller down a bit. I think there’s still a RS steering wheel in silver stitching available - PM me if you want the link.
Just added the LW pulley, SAI delete and JHM tune… wooooooow. It’s fucking awesome! Pulls hard as fuck guys! Added the RS6 gear shifter and S-line flat bottom… still waiting on the S6 emblem to come in so I can change them out.
I had been experiencing tail light issues for a little over a week now, including an intermittent rear center light issue all due to the after market LED tail lights. My shop made me aware that the center light is most likely going out due to the change in voltage usage from the aftermarket lights, which makes sense.
Anyways, I start looking into the tail light issue myself since it was isolated to just the right side. I started to compare the wiring from the left side (still working) and the right side to see if maybe there was a mix up with some of the smaller connections, but both were the same. Then naturally I pull out the OEM just to see if it was actually the after market lights failing only to find out that there’s about 1-2 oz of water in the ACTUAL CONNECTOR…
Clean up the water, give some time for it to dry and then we’re all good to go. I think the problem is that there’s a small gap from the aftermarket lights and the rear quarter panel/bumper which is allowing water (rain, condensation, etc) to enter the connector and disrupt any bulbs associated with the assembly.
I’m thinking electrical tape (or tape in general) should work to prevent that from happening again. My one concern now is how can I disable the ECU from checking for the rear center light? It only goes off when in use (at a stop) for ~1-2 mins. Can I utilize VAGCOM to either extend the time the computer uses to check the light or completely disable it without affecting the light?
Here’s some updates:
Still waiting to eventually purchase Ross-Tech for VAGCOM, so I can look at addressing the light voltage output issue that will cause my rear center light to flicker on and off depending on its usage.
I’ve been looking at several RS6 parts (along with my budget LOL) and I’m in the processing of acquiring the following:
RS6 footrest + pedals
RS6 headlights
Likewise, I’ve also ordered some Audi R8 rims in gunmetal but there’s an EXCELLENT guy locally who does great powder coating at decent pricing. So I’m thinking gloss black. Only bad news is with the difference in size from OEM (OEM is 19x9, after market R8s are 19x8.5) is that the current tires won’t transfer over… I don’t see an immediate need to spend $800 on tires YET, so maybe that’ll happen in the summer time.
I’m also looking at a true RS6 steering wheel IF I can sell my current one and RS6 bumper w/ APS+. As much as I’d love to have pictures of this fully completed soon, I can guarantee you this won’t be done until late Q3/Q4 because of the entire process and what I’m looking to do. It’s not worth it to me to add the headlights, bumper, APS+ and ACC at different times unless absolutely necessary. I may add the headlights early only because I have a bulb failing which’ll require bumper removal anyway (from my understanding at least). Btw I got some OSRAM Cool Blues. ;D
The steering wheel looks awesome. Super sharp. That’s a good power combo with the LW pulley and jhm tune. The car really rips after the tune add the pulley and it just frees up even more power
Check out my fucking rims after a premium powder coating! Michelin Pilot Sport 4s to come next month. Also working on acquiring the other RS6 headlight with AFS.
Bought some Michelin Pilot Sport 4s and got the wheels on yesterday, however hub caps didn’t fit. The R8 wheels look very nice, but I’m waiting on the hub caps and lug nut covers to come in this Sunday. I’m hoping that’ll fix the balancing issue as well.
It’s a slight edge over OEM, I think it came out 28 lbs lighter for the set, but definitely no carbon fiber rims! LOL. And it should get rid of that gap once the H&R coilovers are purchased.
Ordered some proper hub centric rings from ECS and the ride is smooth again!
Next things to address is an inconsistent flashing CEL and minor misfires occurring randomly. At this point it could be either bad coilpacks or the battery as I’ve replaced everything else, and to be fair those items are due anyway. I’m also going to start aggressively doing preventative maintenance on suspension components. I’ve had a creaking noise in the rear, which I’m suspecting are bad bushings on the rear control arms (fronts were replaced ~12000 miles ago). Here’s a list that I’m thinking to get around to this summer/fall:
H&R coilovers (struts)
Rear control arms
Tie rods
CV axle on left side if absolutely necessary
The rear control arms are pretty damn expensive, and I’m having trouble finding Meyle HD for them. Is it more cost effective to have the bushings replaced or the whole control arm? One of them is $560 for each side!
