So apparently, no AR15 was used at Sandy Hook, but yet that still turns out to be the focus of the new legislation. Seems like the politicians really have the real issues on their mind. . .
One is made by Colt Manufacturing Copmany the other is made by Bushmaster Firearms International… other than that… identical!
The blood and guts of the firearm is whats betwwen the front of the mag and ends at the pistol grip. No matter what barrel, butt / stock and any bling attachments you put on… the core stays the same.
As a side note the Candian C7A1 assault rifle (CAR-15) was produced in Kitchener Ontario by a company called Diemaco until 2000. The company was bought out by another in Longeuil Qc. In 2005 Colt bought out the contract and they now directly supply us.
I was going to say, that looks like a C7/M16 rifle.
Was fun sleeping on them in the field to ensure our NCOs didn’t take them from us in the middle of the night to test us…not.
Bingo, that the key issue here. The AR15 is really nothing that fancy, just a semi-auto. So people who are educated can’t understand how you can ban “assault style” weapons? The “Style” is mostly just a look. They’re not talking about firing rate, barrel length, or anything else.
When you think about what makes up the guts of an AR15, it really isn’t too different between that and dozens of other guns. At that point you pretty much have semi-auto, bolt action, revolver, or break apart shotguns. So making an attempt to ban Assault Style also sounds like, attempt to ban semi-auto.
Please, someone who knows something about American laws and the ATF, etc. tell me that John Stewart’s bit in last night’s show isn’t the entire picture and refute/add to what he mentions. If it is as he claims it is, that’s just fucked up.
The NRA is saying that there are already plenty of laws on the books and that the government should be focusing on enforcing those existing laws instead of trying to create new ones that won’t work/harm honest gun owners through the use of the ATF which exists for that very purpose.
Up to this point, that sounds reasonable.
However, upon further digging, it turns out the ATF is pretty much powerless both in headcount (supposedly it was created with 2500 people (that includes field agents, etc.) in the early 70s and today, there’s still only 2500 people there), but it’s mostly due to certain amendments included in various unrelated bills (or whatever they’re called) in the mid-2000s (2006 is what the report mentions if I recall). Those amendments bar the ATF from requiring legit gun sellers from keeping track of their gun inventories, allow them to destroy background checks 24 hours after they are performed, and plenty of other huge restrictions. There’s also a mention of a study that was done showing that a high percentage of guns in the country were “sold” by 1% of rogue gun sellers (the point being there’s no need to go after every gun seller, just the 1%, but that’s impossible because gun sellers aren’t required to keep track of their gun sales).
As for who wrote those addendums? Some politician who asked the NRA to review the wording so that they could okay it.
TL;DR The NRA is saying that the ATF needs to enforce the existing laws rather than create new ones but those existing laws are completely inadequate (i.e. the ATF’s hands are completely tied) because they were written by the NRA.
In any case, the bit is worth watching. It’s only 10 minutes long (or so) and quite funny as well (I think he’s a good comedian).
He is good. I think he gues hosted for Arsenio Hall back in the day. I thought he was great back then. Now his show is huge, although I just about never watch it for some reason.
I’m no attorney but a lot of his interpretation of the laws aren’t too far off. They sound plausible and very similar to what I’ve read and heard before this situation.
The DB comment is not accurate as far as I know. Even the comment about not tracking used gun sales, they are definitely tracked and entered into a DB. This DB is used not only from a law enforcement and statistical standpoint but it is also available for certain marketing uses. The NRA themselves use it to better target potential buyers.
Other than that, even with his humurous comments leading us down a path, it was accurate as far as I know.
I don’t know if he froze. Listen carefully, you can hear the click. Either the idiot didn’t load the gun or it jammed. I think you can see his finger pull it too. Crazy shit.
