hanging RPM's on shift.

I saw this post on AZ. I don’t like posting on AZ due to its new site because when I post it takes for ever for my letters I type to show up.

I saw this post with this video

This is ECU Related and there have been updates to fix this. I Can’t tell you why this happens or why Audi has done this. Its been explained to me that this is for helping make the car more drivable. Not every year car will do this.

From what I remember its speed related. There is a speed that the car will cover that it will no longer do this. You can ask your Audi dealer for a update or I would assume you can ask JHM to address this.

Hope this helps.

That is me and i just signed up here to post about this problem. It seems that people over here are more tech savvy so hopefully we can solve this and check it off the list because there are so many different possible issues that it just hasnt been pinpointed yet.

I have emailed jhm about it and they are well aware of the problem. I work for a chevrolet dealer but dont have access to a vagcom, only the bluetooth obd2 adapter that shows p-codes and so far I dont have 1 single code stored, other than the o2 sensor codes from the piggies. There is one thing that did work for about 5 miles, the throttle relearn. But the longer i drove it the worse condition got, now back to square one.

If you say that this is because a fault in the ecu and that there is a software update, then i have no choice to drop the $125 for the update. Since I am already a tech and would rather do it myself it was a good run trying to figure this out. After much research I have noticed that it seems my car has a sever case of it, others would do it but in the first 3 gears where my car does it up to 4th. Its such a pain to drive like this!

I probably wont be able to get it in the dealer until the holidays are over but I will report back. Id also like for others to chime in some useful information, seems its hard to get a straight answer over at AZ. Thanks audirevolution!

Welcome to AR jhmotard!

Do any of the JHM tuned cars have this problem? Maybe JHM already piped this into their tune.

This is sad but seen in several ECUs. Here is the issue. You can’t tell if they latest Update for your ECU will make this worse or better. Each ECU may have as many as 10 updates per ECU. This means that you may be paying the 125$ for the Audi update that could in fact make this no different or worse.

From what Ive seen you would be better off taking that 125$ and working with JHM to take it down. I can’t say how much of this is from your ECU however this is something that has been mentioned as a issue several times.

What leads me to trully believe this is software realated is when you say you have done a throttle body adaption cycle and it makes it better. Try resetting the ECU and see if that lasts longer

Thanks for the info!

How would I go about resetting the Ecu?

you can reset the ECU by going to the motor fault code section and then clearing the codes. Even if there are no codes hit clear codes. This will reset the ECU learn cycle

Is this with a vagcom?

yes sorry. We techs don’t use Vag-com but Im well aware of what it is. That would be what you would use. Try that and then let us know. If it follows the same pattern as the throttle body relearn then its in your software version.

I do not have a vagcom…ill have to see if I can find someone locally.

post in the audizine local forums. best place to find someone i would think.

^Follow Saki’s link/discussion about the ecutool.com vagcom cable. ~$25 and it’ll do everything you need plus some.

Excellent! I ordered one!

I did a bunch of research about the ross-tech but couldn’t justify spending that much on a license and software i would barely use.

Thanks again. Ill let ya know when I get it.
