Hi i Want to create header for s6 som good advice ? What is the demintion of the pipe 1 1/2 in ?
Depending on your end goals gutting the stock manifolds will get you big gains
I am considering gutting or cut and replace my cats with a straight pipe, and for emissions testing I’ll have an emissions exhaust ready with aftermarket cats.
I have since been wondering how big the differences between custom headers and gutting/cuttin the stock cats is.
Any one have any numbers on this?
the difference between piggie pipes and headers on the 4.2 was significant, im sure it will only be amplified on the 5.2. theres more to slapping pipes together but a proper header setup would really uncork these motors. ive been looking at the factory manifolds and downpipes and there is so much room left of the table
Well I have to look but the countvohn headers made a TON of power. And on the cars that have them do really really well.
The test for before and after is logged somewhere. I’ll try to find it.
But that isn’t all of the story.
With the great results shown by the headers made by Countvohn someone in Europe tried to make there own. Not out of anything other than they would have had issues importing the ones from countvohn… Anyways. The guy in Europe posted the build on the old site. They were not able to do a lot of the things that went into the countvohn headers for whatever reason but over all it showed just adding longer pipes isn’t going to make more power.
Demetrius will speak to this as we saw the same thing with the 4.2. JHM make a KILLER set of headers… I still have them on my S4. They made a ton of power over stock and over piggy pipes.
Some POS china company tried to knock them off. Turned out they too couldn’t make and do all of the complicated things needed to make headers make power and when the China headers for the 4.2 were tested they showed to make LESS POWER than you would have made on just piggie pipes.
The headers for the 5.2 were going for about $4600 or more. And they were worth the money. If you can afford them they are a great piece. BUT you can gut your cats on the 5.2 and do really really well. Not header well but well. A big bump in power and TQ. Some were seeing 50hp 50Tq add in the JHM tune and that number goes up a bit more.
If you gut your cats and get the JHM tune. Chances are you won’t need an emissions exhaust.
I have not seen you can buy them ( headers) . Next week i will take the engine out and start making som myself.Missing just good advice .so all the good suggestions , l would very much like to receive .
when i swapped to the JHM headers on my 4.2 many many moons ago, i can still remember the initial drive home and thought to myself there is no way because the car literally transformed. I see the prices JHM sells them for now and im jealous because it is such a great deal for the 4.2 guys, i believe i had paid almost 1.5k more at the time and availability was super limited. if the v10 ones come in at the price point justin mentioned, id be first in line, most do not understand how much work it takes to make a piece like that especially in limited run. when you count for time involved, the profit on 4600 for a set of v10 long tubes in good 304 or 321 stainless is minimal.
i understand where you stand on this brother, but maybe if we can get Count in here to discuss a group buy we can come up with the funds to make this worthwhile to launch this into production. a custom set will help, anything will help over the restrictive stock stuff but for community sake and to advance this platform, we really need JHM’s support in all this so they can see the worth in continuing development and make more and cooler parts for all of us.
Right but the problem is just that you can’t buy them for the v10. I own a stainless tube fitting company and we weld many pipes . So to make them, I do not see as a problem, and yes it will take many hours to make them. But not double to make 2 or more it is the first set that are most difficult
With that username … could I be so lucky that you are a fellow Dane?
Yes i am
Would be great if I could, at some point, buy them here in Denmark!

I am looking forward to hear about the results on those custom heads!
