Help resetting nav unit

i raised this issue in another thread, but I’ll start a new one here.

I confirmed with the dealer that 4E0060884EG is the correct update DVD for my 2G MMI. Got one on eBay. Intially when I put it in it wasn’t recognized. I determined that to do the update you need to put the disc in and then key up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcaSmElTThY). The update seemed to start fine, and then got hung up at 6%. As I was sitting there I got a call that went to blue tooth. After the 5 minute call, I turned the car off.

Now the lights on the nav unit flash red, the MMI says “navigation not installed”. When I go into VAGCOM says “controller not found” in the 37-navigation selection.

BlackS6 was trying to help me via PM a while back, but his PMs kept getting cut off. He mentioned something about using the hidden menu. I googled it and found a mr-fix.info website with some info on that, but nothing apparent applying to my situation.

I had also disconnected the car battery for an extended period of time hoping for a reset, but no joy.

Help appreciated!

Usually its going to be more helpful to all members if help on all topics like this are in the forum for others to see. Help in PMs is great but it won’t help others.

The only thing that I have seen a fix something similar to this was to unplug the actual unit from the car kay up the car let the modules see no connection. Then key off the car plug in the unit and key up the car again and clear all codes though the clear all codes in vagcom. if you still don’t get a communication connection there is supposed to be a master reset pin location that you push to master reset the unit. I have just read about this but never actually seen it myself. It might be worth a look

Thanks, I will try this w/e and see if that works.

Update: FINALLY, had time to remove the nav unit from the rack. No hard reset button. Myth: debunked.
But, after I reconnected the nav unit, I reinstalled the original map disc. Keyed up the car, and BEHOLD, the display said “initializing.” After a minute, the nav unit was fully operational again.

So, don’t know if disconnecting/reconnecting work, or if I did something slighly different this time around. Anyway, all good!!!

Interesting to know. There is always the master reset talk. I know I have seen it on other units and its so small its hard to even see but Ive never seen in on the S6 units. But the disconnect method almost always works.

I took a bunch of pic of the unit when out. I’ll post them and you can see if I missed something. I didn’t see anything. But my wife says I have “man eyes” when I look in the fridge so who knows?
