How to remove door/window trim?

How do I remove the one on the front doors, at the base of the window?

Can you be more specific?

Follow one of the DIY for window regulator replacement. You need to pull the window frame out of the door, there are a couple bolts at the inside top of the door shell, some on the side and a couple at the bottom. The trim is held on by some clips in the back that are easy to remove.

you sure he isn’t talking about the interior trim in either aluminium, piano black or carbon fibre?

In that case, you just pop it out starting at the front of the piece, by wedging a pry tool of some sort, preferably not metal, or if metal, covered with something. The front you can almost use your hands alone to get it out because of the 90 degree wrap corner up front

You’re just popping these things out

I hope not, he said base of the window. And the interior trim is far to easy of a google search to figure out…I hope.

If you’re talking about the exterior aluminum (or black) belt molding you have to remove the interior door trim panel, door glass and window frame. If I remember correctly it is attached to the door frame but can only be accessed with the window frame removed.

Those are just the outer shells. If you attempt to take those apart from the rubber/plastic seal that is attached to the door they will most likely bend and be junk. Like 65vette and I said the only way to get them off whole is to remove the window frame.

Mine is already scratched so I don’t care about it being damaged. Can I install a new one without pulling the door apart?

You could try prying on the trim but you might bend or break the part that is clipped into the door frame. If you do get it off there’s no guarantee that the new piece will snap on either. If it were my car I would just spend the time and take it apart. With a DIY it’s not a huge task, just make sure the window frame is properly lined up with the body before you fully put it back together.

Exactly. Jeff you can get to it without taking the door apart but the time you would spend trying to work around all the obstacles and how hard it would be on reassembly it would take less time to take the door apart.

Getting the door apart is actually very easy. And if you break something trying to go from the top with the window still in to track your more likely to break something and you will have to take the door apart to fix it.
