I’m going to have my AC checked tomorrow because my wife complains that it is not cold enough.
But I noticed that the HVac blower seems much stronger when driving at urban speeds, but when I’m on the highway at 80+MPH it seems to blow weakly. Plus, it seems the passenger side is not as cold as the driver side.
Doing a AC check is a good idea on the checking the amount of coolant in the system.
One of the things to check is the cabon filters. Check to see if they are clean and also check to make sure the area around the folters is clear. Lastly check to make sure the filter box is closed and sealed. You might be pulling in too much hot air if the outside air intake for the filters is not sealed properly.
There is the chance that your blower motor is weak but I would check the filters and the filter box first
So about 8 hrs into the road trip the AC cut out (in the mountains above Tirana, Albania). And it’s been very hot this week. I had it checked out and apparently the AC compressor died. Maybe that was the problem.
Does anyone have experience replacing these?
PN 4F0260805AH? Is this PN also necessary or advised: 4f0820191b?
oh man that sucks. The AC system on these cars suck and thats not uncommon to have an issue about 6 months after you pulled the motor. Once the AC system gets opened up they dont like to go back and get recharged the AC compressors on these cars sucks its across several cars.
If the compressor died your going to need to replace your AC filter and restrictor other wise your going to have to do it again soon.
I would contact the guys at JHM about the AC compressor. The 4.2 S4 I am almost sure uses the same AC compressor and JHM sells a ton of them to the 4.2 S4 guys because when they pull there motor for timing chain work the compressor usually goes out a few months later so most guys just replace them. Im pretty sure JHM can get you one for about half that much.
The other part is the filter restriction tube… 8E0820177 you deffentily want to change that as well.
WOW jake thats great good to see you guys reaching out and helping the V10 platform like this. I know the 4.2 V8 would be nothing without you guys. Its exciting to see the future for the v10 looking brighter and brighter
BTW, is this a standard remove & replace job? Or does it require special skills to replace the AC Compressor+extras correctly to prevent floaty bits from ruining the new compressor a few months later. I’m asking because my super-skilled audi mechanic is working in Croatia for the summer and won’t be back until September. Not sure if I am allowed to wait until then…
You can wait until then if you wish but keep in mind the reason our compressors fail so easy is that they are spinning all the time so your broken compressor will still be spinning. Since the AC is a closed system I dont think you have to worry about it getting much worse just dont turn on the AC but if you need to use the defrost that turns on the AC. If im not mistaken you cant turn off the climate controls on the car can you… On the A6 for those years you cant turn off the system fully
More of a direct answer is no the parts are a remove and replace kind of deal. Just make sure to fill the system properly before starting the car. It would also be a good idea to pull the front exchanger off and blow it out.
