IM Flap Position Sensor-Electrical Malfunction/Camshaft B/Crash ensors

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Car had been running pretty well for a while after cleaning some injectors. I’ve got a few problems that need addressed for state inspection namely:

008212 - Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1)
P2014 - 002 - Electrical Malfunction - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 11100010
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 213752 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2007.04.18
Time: 11:04:26

         Freeze Frame:
                RPM: 0 /min
                Load: 0.0 %
                Speed: 0.0 km/h
                Temperature: 63.0°C
                Temperature: 43.0°C
                Absolute Pres.: 1000.0 mbar
                Voltage: 13.589 V

The electrical malfunction has me thrown off. It’s not coding as stuck or closed/open. Could this be a bad connector under the IM? Immediate CEL after clearing codes on startup.

Next:

000036 - Bank 2: Camshaft B (Exhaust)
P0024 - 004 - Retard Setpoint not Reached (Over-Advanced) - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 11100100
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 213752 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2007.04.18
Time: 11:08:15

         Freeze Frame:
                RPM: 1152 /min
                Load: 21.6 %
                Speed: 15.0 km/h
                Temperature: 68.0°C
                Temperature: 38.0°C
                Absolute Pres.: 1000.0 mbar
                Voltage: 14.224 V

I’ve never experienced this code before. Another forum search result showed possible clogged oil screen on the camshaft adjuster? Just cleared this code so we’ll see when it returns.

Lastly:

1738 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Drivers Side (G283)
014 - Defective - MIL ON
01739 - Crash Sensor for Front Airbag; Pass. Side (G284)
014 - Defective - MIL ON

Anyone experienced these going “defective”? Replacement needed or possibly wiring?

The help is greatly appreciated!

The connectors for the flap motors and sensors are all on the front of the IM so they are easily accessible.

I replaced my driver side crash sensor a couple of years ago when the airbag light came on.

Was your airbag light on for quite a while before you pulled the codes? I cannot see them failing at the same time unless you suffered some front end damage. The front crash sensors are on different harnesses back to the airbag control module so I would not think it is wiring related.

Thanks, eng92

IIRC there are connectors up underneath the IM, just don’t recall what those control. I’ll have a better look at the wiring up front tomorrow. Hoping it could just be a loose connector or bad wire.

Do you have a write up for replacing the crash sensor? I don’t recall when the first code appeared. It has been on for a bit before codes were pulled. There is slight lower lip damage (like bumped a curb) which could have been caused by a couple of other drivers that had access to the car recently (one being my 87 year old grandparents for an aiport drop off… yea).

Any thoughts on the camshaft B timing code?

Appreciate the help

So, I’ve got a busted IM: https://drive.google.com/open?id=140407xJUWsGphG272Dyg7TolWVbtzlHA

That would explain the flapper motor CEL

NOTE: I pulled the IM a couple of years ago to replace a bank of injectors, perhaps I failed to install the flapper assembly correctly?

Crash sensors look OK - pulled each, cleaned, blown off and re-installed. If they still throw codes I’ll replace them.

Haven’t diagnosed the Cam b timing issue - I put some miles on after clearing the codes last so we’ll see if it crops back up.

Used IMs are pricey. Appears I can get 07/08 complete motors with less miles than mine for $3k - Would an 08/09 motor plug and play with an 07 chasis/ECU? Not going that route just yet, but wondering if it’s an option with newer model motors.

Getting an used IM is a bad idea

That for sure is a broken intake manifold.

3k for a used intake… JHM has them for like 1800 new or something like that.

I would really suggest getting a new intake. As intakes after I don’t remember the date now but its like before 2018 are going to break sooner or later.
