Intake Mani spacer install, uh oh..

Just got done installing the intake spacers and it looks like I am in a world of trouble…
The car is sputtering, almost making a purge sound at times and while idling hiccups like its about to die almost. Every thing was reinstalled as it was removed. Flashing CEL and sputtering aren’t good as I am leaving tomorrow for Fixxfest.

Codes: 16805, 16684, 16685, 16688, 17887, 16689, 17924

Any help will be appreciated. Fucking German engineering. Love/HATE

check your wires and your gaskets…

16805 - Warm up cat efficiency (bank 1)
16684 - Random misfire
16685 - Cyl 1 misfire
16688 - Cyl 4 misfire
16689 - Cyl 5 misfire
17887 - Brake boost vac failure
17924 - Intake manifold valve

Sounds like you may have broken the suction jet (connects to the intake tube and brake booster), forgot to hook up the connector/pinched a wire for the intake manifold changeover valve, and you have a bad vac leak (possibly from suction jet) that is causing misfires on both banks and the O2 sensor code.

The vac leak will cause misfires. Try clearing the codes to see if the misfires come back on the same cylinders or if they move around.

Cleared and started car, same codes. This is quite frustrating is as from the look of it, it ruined my whole weekend.

I’ve had similar issues with vac leaks before, they are frustrating but the motor is a rather simple system when you break it all down.

The missfires are from unmetered air, as is the cat efficiency code most likely.

Check the suc jet, the brake vac code is a strange one but its connected to the suction jet which is connected to the inlet track.

Take your time and go over everything again and you’ll find it.

and got to the wiki on ross-tech.com… I’m on my phone so I cant post everything here but they have advice on diag’ing each code

My comp is shot, so I am on my phone as well. I’m so fucking aggregated and pissed off.

i assume you’ve double and triple checked all the vac lines that were disconnected during this install? somethings got to be loose or connected wrong.

Damn :frowning:

My car idle hunts as well, and has the warm up efficiently code as well, but JHM still has to look at it. Too bad ur so far away, I would def help u tear that sucker back apart. Good luck man, let me know if you need anything.

Well, here goes my weekend. Tore everything back apart, triple checked everything. Car won’t even start now, cranks over, sputters, dies.
I’ve about had it guys.

try cranking it and giving it some gas? where are you located?

Car starts now, idles like hell, runs like hell, and talked to Count and I have a vacuum leak somewhere. So tonigh is my birthday, I’m going out tonight and I’m going wild lol
I will be messing with it tomorrow and hopefully still be able to go to Fixxfest

You deffinitly have a vac leak. Did you drive the car and experence any brake stopping issues. I would check the pedal. chances are you didn’t reconnect one of the main Vac lines. It looks like your brake booster VAC line is off. This would cause this to happen as its a large vac line

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a cracked line in the front of the motor. The lines Audi uses are braided rubber so the rubber hose underneath cracks and you can’t find it because the fabric braid covers it up. I ended up replacing all of the vacuum lines with silicone hose from napa

Btw, Happy Birthday

PS: Hope you find the fault after you recover tomorrow!

Based on the videos you sent us of your idle hunt, I don’t think that it’s related to the symptoms that zingo is describing. He has a major vacuum leak that needs to be tracked down. Your cat codes are most likely because of the fact that you’re running catless on an early version of our tune and we weren’t able to track every code down until we got more miles on a catless setup. We’ve since updated the tune and whenever you can come by, let us know and we’ll get you sorted out.

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble. It sounds like the Count has you handled but please let us know if you need anything else!

has zingo checked the vac lines yet? Three people have told him to do that but I haven’t seen anything that would indicate he has

This is like watching a horror movie where people are screaming at the screen, but the actor can’t hear them and he walks right into a machete wielding maniac hiding behind the door.

Fuck these vacuum lines. Seriously. I get them almost all sorted and replaced then another one from out of nowhere comes and fucking snaps and I have NO idea where it goes.

Lol I am in this mess right now.

poor zingo

where are you located? Maybe someone we know can help

you said fixxfest…thats’ in the southeast right?

Can you rent a smoke test machine (not meaning Zingo per say, just in general?) It’s extremely easy to perform from what I’ve seen, but would be nice to see any obvious van leaks you’re not noticing.

If you’ve already pulled and reattached all the wiring, then it’s tough to say. Sounds kinda like one of those 'doh moments is around the corner from something not being connected or a wire being pulled apart.

As complicated as everything is, like beem said, the more you figure it out and learn where everything goes & why, it becomes a pretty simple system. Pulling my motor made everything seem to fall into perfect place and no more, “hmm, I wonder where that wire goes or what it does” type of thinking.

Best of luck to ya Zingo!
