Intake manifold gasket

In the process of troubleshooting an issue with my engine, I may remove the top half of the D2 S8 intake manifold to ensure that the variable intake runner flaps are not damaged. There is a gasket that runs around the port openings on the bottom half of the manifold. You can see it outlining the port openings in the pic below

Does this gasket need to be changed when I put things back together, or is it reusable?

from what I under stand its not ment to be serviced… I would be very careful and maby use some liquid gasket

No personal experience, but I’ve heard a few stories of the actuators being the culprit which would eliminate pulling the intake mani.

Thanks for the tip. That is what I figured. I have three of these spare intakes and all look like they are on the original gasket/seal. Ill check out Liquid Gasket

on the s4 manifolds, that seal gets torn up when the halves are separated, a fuel resistant rtv may work to reseal

Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t heard of that before, and I have had about everything go wrong that can go wrong with these manifolds. Im going to check my seal for a vacuum leak with some propane or starting fluid when the weather gets nicer.

I found some other stuff wrong, so I may not have to pull the manifold apart afterall. When I have some time, I think Ill do a tech article on the A6/S6/S8/Phaeton manifolds, as I have unwittingly become kind of an expert on them.
