Interesting new SC kit for the 4.0 V8 M3...as it relates Aviva/AMD RS4 kit

Seems Aviva is involved in another supercharger kit…a TVSr1740 kit for the E9X M3. Interesting that they used the 1740 and not the 1900 they chose for the RS4 kit.

There was lots of talk about whether or not the 1900 was a bit oversized for the smaller RS4 engine than the big 6+ litre domestics it was most popular on. There was also lots of shots taken at APR by the AMD fanboys for their 1740 choice for the RS5/R8 kit. Funny eh?

The TVS1740’s producing over 500 AWHP on 93 octane on the 4.2 without breaking a sweat. I haven’t seen what the 1900’s doing, except for a 450 AWHP run?

Saki,
It comes down to pressure ratio. Designed boost profile, and peak pressure ratio is much lower than the 4.2 Application with the 1900. The BMW V8 S65 is not built like the audi motors.

Cost, size, manufacturing are other considerations.

The R1900 compared to the R1740 while close in displacement, behave differently. The pressure ratio capabilities + isentropic efficency cant be matched by any other blower. The 1740 is a longer version of the 1320, which is a longer version of the 90. Its much simpler to package, and uses the smaller housings, bearings plate, and gears.

Arin,
Can you share any dyno graph information, and modifications along with the 500 wheel announcement?

^^^Arin was probably referring to the R8 kit. Rs5 and B8 S4 are 2nd and 3rd in line I believe, development wise.

Seeing a dyno would be nice. It’s a bit early.

Jonathan, you guys are in full blown kit release mode (and in full blown customer advertising mode on audizine) yet we still haven’t seen your full release. Just the quarter mile time, which was awesome. Thanks for sharing that…I know you guys weren’t big believers in that test, but now that you have some good results, maybe you’ll embrace after seeing how it instantly legitimized the performance aspect of the kit.

Anyway, is there somewhere this information can be seen? I need to add your quarter mile times to the database we run, and I also want to add your information to the RS4 supercharger argument thread. I need that information to do so.

This certainly spells disaster and an admitted sign of defeat with the 1900 kit for the rs4 for aviva. 500whp on the 4.2 out of the TVS1740 Arin super results!!

I can, but I’m not ready to do it yet. We’re not finished or on the smallest pulley yet. I’ll just be selling myself short if I do. BTW, it’s pretty hot down here right now. ; )

You mean you’re fully testing a product before it’s released. Novel lol.

Anyway I thought the 1740 was an APR exclusive? Or was it just that you couldn’t reveal which OEM was using the 1740.

I would interested to see if the 1740 on the RS4 ends up being quicker than the 1900 on the RS4 (a la AMD). If only because their tuning background in the RS4 supercharged world is proven (i.e. count vohn sauce)

Besides the oem, we had first access to the 1740 and announced it once the green light was given. The m3 was using something else, till recently getting a sample. It will eventually something anyone can buy.

The RS5 is on MED17 which is totally new stuff. Looks like still very few are even tuning it. I have no real clue what people are getting out of it with software only since it seems no one is touching it. Our stage 1 software is out with full program switching which will be nice for selecting fuel grades and especially valet mode since it would be an easy and fun joy ride machine! The new platform should also make tuning pretty fun. We can do live tuning, allowing for instant changes without reflashing.

We’re already placing our bets internally. I’m calling 10’s one way or another. Maybe that goal is a bit lofty. Time shall tell!

There’s nothing wrong with calling for 10s. Hell JHM almost did it the other night on a manually shifted RS4…on their 91 tune, in +650 feet of density.
The RS5 with the DSG will be compelling

I bet the biggest problem will be getting the car to allow you to go that fast. There will be all sorts of little nannies stepping in to stop you.

That 1740 is going to be really interesting. Hopefully you guys really take your time with it. I know you will be doing plenty of testing on the inhouse cars you own before launching it. We will all get impatient but at these power levels, you can’t just go all AMD and test on a customer car and launch without adequate testing/teardown. You need to take your damn time on your own car.

Well we own the RS5 and aren’t in any sort of rush. We’ve also doubled our staff in the past couple years and continue to add more talented people. That should help to say the least.

Just wondering what your guys’ opinions are regarding what Arthur was discussing regarding his engineering analysis of the 1740 vs 1900 awhile back?

Here it is.

I just like posting how Fing stupid this guy is…

ahhh more fail.

haha I remember that a while back

I also remember someone boasting that the big AMD kit would be running ‘at least 15 PSI’.

I found it weird that a measure of a restriction was worn as a badge of honour.

It gets better this is like gold.
RS4 on any tune runs 8500rpm.
can someone grab where jason mentions that they will have a stage 3 wtth a bigger 2300 blower because this makes him look stupid them
also would NEVER design a kit that doesn’t have headroom for further power once again I will say that the 1900 is THE option for the RS4.

Fact 3: Our tuning partner is EPL.

Stage Three utilizing the beastly TVS2300 at considerable boost level and power.

Fact 8: If it has not been stated by myself or Jonathan at Aviva Instruments it is not fact.

OPPPPPSSS

ohhhhhh shit 2 for 1 fail… snowtrooper in your face.
So we can expect 550+ wheel hp from the TVS1740!! Impressive…
Only after they have Kurt fix the tune for them…
thats funny in more than one way to me actually! maybe for you too.
This is a hugh fail. maybe EPL should have called CV might have been a bad Idea to say that for Snowtrooper considering EPL didn’t get the last call on the tune. I guess AMD called uM to help when there was issues with EPL…Snowtrooper must have been busy that week and couldn’t help. WOW what a fail this has been for them. Only to then move back to the 1700 WOW.
