Intro - New 3.0 Owner

I very recently picked up a 2002 3.0 Avant in exceptional condition with 125,000km.
This is my second 2002 Audi - sharing the stable is a 2002 TT (225) which I have had for 3 yrs - and lovin every second of it - it has been an exceptionally reliable and fun ride.
After changing oil (Mobil 0-30 and Mann filter) and getting the TB done, I figured I was set!
Put all of 3,000km on the beast when I got the dreaded 17125 DTC - looks like the seal in the torque converter is leaking… Ironic really - I was looking for a 3.0 6MT - the car that I bought was advertised as a 6MT - it was 1000km away, so I was…upset… that it had the Tip. In the end I got a really good deal on the ride, and sure enough…17125. Oh well - I have it booked in - I am sure the great deal I got on the car will be quickly erased by the engine pull and torque converter replace. So be it. Love the car, love the sound of the V6, hoping to put tons of miles on it. `

Welcome! Always glad to have a new member on board. Hope you get everything sorted out with the TQ… Post up some pics of the car! What do you have planned in the way of mods for it?

I wouldn’t jump too much on thinking that the TQ coverter is bad. It could be that your fluid is low, your fluid is dirty, or you do have a going bad TQ converter. I had that same code and after a transmission flush I was good to go now for 5000miles.

Great to have a new 3.0 guy glad to have you. What are your plans for the car.

Thanks for the tips - will try a fluid change to see if it helps.

Way to deliver with pics! Great looking cars for sure, is the TT stock as well?

Good call on the fluid flush shawn. I remember now having some unsolvable transmission problems and CEL’s when I first got my car. A flush got rid of all that.

The TT has some tweaks - it is chipped - getting about 20psi boost (ya!)
I did the boost gauge mod in one of the air vents.
I also installed a Modshack intake and the APR R1 DV.
It has about 220,000km on it and still going strong - no glitches whatsoever…
When I bought it at 160,000km I did a full front to back service - all fluids, TB, and CoilPacks.

I went ahead and dropped the pan, and changed the filter and fluid. Replaced all those nasty torx bolts with allen-head bolts while I was at it…so far so good. I think I know what the issue was - I had my local indy do the TB and I bet he never topped up the ATF…I am quite pissed at him as I asked them to address an oil leak. When I picked up the car the reception said “yea, it is the rear cam seals, we would have had to special order them in, don’t worry about it”. Right. I won’t worry about the puddles of oil… They had the cam covers off - I would have gladly delivered the seals to their door… Oh well, off to find a new indy…
