Good to know about JHM results duplicated at other tracks. That is solid enough credibility for me.
When I used to race against those gmc syclones, they would fly out of the hole with a super quick 1/8 mile but finish with a trap speed of 93 mph…crazy torque
and about chrisk, what’s his story? why does he have to slam me? my dog didn’t eat my timeslips, they were really recycled. I do have a cat, but we’ll avoid the cat A5/S5 thing. Cat did steal my porkchop two weeks ago and growled at me when I took it back. but those weren’t time slips. I’ve emailed the track asking for them
and if you want to see Chrisk’s stable, it’s here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/chriskober/page1/…and that’s a Grand National folks, not a GNX.
Perhaps chrisk sold the gnx and also had or purchased a grand national but…if it isn’t
Gnx had added on fender flares, which Chrisk’s car does not
Gnx has A GNX emblem on the front grill and rear deck, Chrisk’s has a GN logo on the rear deck, not the GNX . I had extras because I was gonna do that stupid gold plating…remember when that was popular? but I didn’t
GNX has a special diff cover made of aluminum and reads GNX and it was glued on with permatex anerobic sealer at ASC, which Chrisk’s GNX does not.
Gnx has a torque arm bolted to the diff, I don’t see it on Chrisk’s diff having the attatchment, but perhaps he upgrades away from the 8" ring gear 10 bolt diff?
GNX had a set of killer looking gills on the front fender behind the wheel well, Chisk’s does not.
GNX had no emblems on the fender, but you can see grand national emblems indicating this is a GN
Gnx and this GN in 87, were both intercooled. chrisk’s gnx, that looks like a GN with some 16" gnx rims, both have the 87 blacked out grill. 86 gn grill had chrome trim-horizontal piece on the top of a blacked out grill.
chrisk’s gn, gnx has an aftermarket intercooler in front of the radiator and he has eliminated the factory garret air research intercooler, or the prototype one that garret made for the 547 GNX’s that were sold.
Chrisk most likely has a 4.1 V6 block stroked and has had parts from applied technologies and Ken Dutwieller, I’m not going to google ken’s name to see if I spelled it correctly. Chrisk’ may have swapped out the TH2004R trans that could not hold up under an 11 second GN, or in this case, a GNX.
OE turbo on the GN was a T3, and the GNX was the same but with a ceramic impelar. Chrisk most likely has a larger turbo A/R to accomadate the fatser times and a high stall converter otherwise why waste your time, right? If you want some advice, unsolicted advice, and you are still running drum brakes on the rear, get the non-power brake wheel cylinders with the 7/8" bore size, it will allow for a little more boost at launch
If that car in that garage, and it looks fun and fast, it’s not a gnx, no different that purchasing a RS5 front and for my S5. I don’t do that. nor would I mod out a real GNX, it’s worth too much stock, and any smart person would do what you have done, get a GN and modify it. My GN was owner by Reggie Jackson, Mr October. looks like you have a turbo TA, 89 vintage, pace car to the indy that year and made only 1500 of them. to fit the engine under the hood, the 3.8 heads were replaced by 3.0 buick heads. roller rocker valve train, where are the syclone and the typhoon in your garage picks, two of the worst vehicles to bracket race with in the world, liquid intercoolers with fluctuating elapsed times as high as four tenths…sheesh!
if that GN is supposed to be a GNX, then that is the other “fake” thing on that photostream.
Chrisk , I’m sure you’re a great guy in public, just like I think that if you and I ever met, we’d probably like each other. and your taste in cars…I really like. I miss my gn and seeing the pics of yours reminds me of a fun car. and the speeding tickets and blazing the tires through three gears in the waldo tunnel and filling the tunnel full of smoke…
Chrisk, my auto shop in high school had an 85 regal with 87 gn/t-type/turbo regal components with it. the mass air flow sensor has hand scribed part numbers along with all of the other parts on the electronics. it had no vin on the dash. no posi either. they got it because a local vo-tech in novato had a teacher, Bob White, that used to be a engineer for GM back in the day. that high school car got me hooked on that type of car.
oh, chrisk, if you don’t have that x brace, aftermarket installed behind the rear seat, get it before you get “the crack” that most g body cars get above that little side rear pillar window on the steel. almost all get it, especially if the car goes as quickly as your does, it may have already occured with the amount of runs you have on the car. kenne belle or kirbans or eastern performance had it, I forget…
