Is your steering wheel model badge chipped? Solution inside.

The B7 RS4 has an RS4 badge at the bottom of the wheel. Its black and red paint tends to get chipped over time, rendering a bit shit looking…

Here’s one on an RS4 in the UK. They’re pretty much all like this after a while. It looks like someone has really gone at it, but it just happens from casual contact.

I asked the parts guy how much it would be…and I was shocked it was $60. With a discount! Best online deal was $40. Here’s one on ebay for $120 lololol. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Audi-RS4-Steering-Wheel-Badge-RS4-Logo-Emblem-Chrome-Plated-Sporty-Look-Genuine-/321452273787?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ad80c707b&vxp=mtr

So I popped mine off and decided to ‘fix’ it. I was going to buy some model paint and touch it up, but when I did, the remaining paint, I found, came off real easy. FYI to pop it out I just wedged the key in the side of it and twisted and out it came. Easy as pie.

Anyway, once I got it out, it became apparent that it was too small to re-paint, mostly because I’m impatient and it would be really tough…the badge is maybe 1 cm wide by 0.5 cm tall.

So I decided to just take all the paint off. Undernearth it’s a mix of matte silver, and shiny silver where the latters are, so I just cleaned it right up, and put it back clean. I used a combo of my fingernail, a toothpick, rubbed it face down on a pad of paper (best) and a pencil eraser to get the paint off. Here’s the result…
