Does anyone have a JHM tuning cable they would be willing to part with? I’m looking to get the tune done but I don’t really see a reason for spending 150 dollars on a cable I am going to use once. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Mine’s around somewhere, but I’m packing to move at the moment. If I run across it, I’ll give you a shout.
I’m in Pennsyltucky (Chambersburg)…might be interested in getting the JHM tune pending autocross results in a month or two ;D
I actually ending up finding a cable on a different market and I did the tune. All I can say is holy st is it insane. First gear has become practically impossible to use. And most importantly the transmission is S finally holds fu*ing gear instead of it shifting as soon as you get off the throttle. 10/10 would reccomend. STI and evo owners everywhere will hate you.
Where did you get the cable and what tune are u talkin about?
I gotta cheapo from eBay maybe I could get it to work. Idk but the tune you describing sound pretty badass to me.
The JHM tune. You have to use their specific cheetah cable though, idk if there is any way around that.
There’s no workaround. An APR cable/dongle MIGHT work, but I wouldn’t even try honestly. JHM definitely won’t support it if the flash goes bad and you’d likely get charged to download/reflash if it doesn’t.
compugeek5150 is correct in saying that there is no workaround. A basic Rosstech cable from ebay will NOT work. An authentic Rosstech cable won’t work either. Different cable.
However, the APR Cheetah cable/dongle WILL work. And a used APR flashing cable might be easier to find than a used “JHM cable”. Great idea. You could email JHM customer service to confirm this compatibility if you like, since me saying “it will work” is hearsay. But the APR Cheetah cable is the exact same cable that JHM ships out for you to install your JHM tune. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the JHM cable is the APR Cheetah cable.
JHM partnered with APR on the tuning/flashing online delivery situation. When you get your tune flashing instructions from JHM, then it will say that if you have previously installed an APR tune, then you basically already have installed the necessary cable drivers and software for online access to the JHM tune download/install process.
I have a cable, but I’m up in the great white North of Canada. Highly recommend the JHM software though. The basic upgrade of a JHM tune realllly wakes up the car
As for other cars getting upset, I had an old rusty S6 wagon at one point, with over 200,000 miles on it (over 300,000km). I looked like a disadvantaged soccer mom in this thing, and I loved it. Zero performance upgrades except a Magnaflow exhaust plus a JHM tune. Imagine two left turning lanes at a red light, which become a pair of lanes for merging onto the highway. Impreza in the left lane. Me in the right lane. Red light. Left turning arrow goes green, and I stab the throttle - just for a moment - just to see if the Subaru will try and light me up. He went for it, so I immediately stomped it just for lol’s. As we both turned left, my lane would eventually merge into the Impreza’s lane, which then becomes the highway merge lane. He had a little head start, but I was pulling slowly past him while his girlfriend/wife was bitching at him. He kept his throttle wide open anyways, like maybe I would have to brake because the lane would end… but… I was well ahead of him before my lane ended. Very fun. Spanked his ass in an old looking station wagon, and he had a head start, plus he got bitched at by his girl as he was losing. Good times.
Many stories and lol’s over the years with JHM enhanced performance. Get a tune!
If you are done with the cable, I would love to snap it off you. Want to get a tune as well, then sell it to the next guy… it can be the s6’s town whore.
