JHM B5 S4 with JHM RS6-R turbos goes 10.88 @ 130

the APR kit maxes out around 525 crank horsepower or say 425-440 whp (limited by the blower’s ability to flow air)…same blower that’s on the B8 S4 3.0 for example to see how undersized it is. The RS4’s internals can handle much more power than this, thus an RS4 kit should have a bigger blower.

Anyway, the JHM S4 blower is basically a monster that is held back with the tune to around 425 whp (to protect the B6/7 S4 motor which isn’t as strong internals wise as the RS4 stock for stock). On the RS4, the JHM SC kit will be pretty incredible.

countvohn loves to point out that while everyone else’s (EVERYONE’S) undersized blower kits are being pushed to the max with tuning etc because the blowers are so small (and thus ineffecient when pushed hard), the JHM setup had to be HELD BACK by tuning to protect the car because it’s such a monster.

Looking at the numbers below, I found this interesting… probably obvious to you guys, but I don’t follow this as extensively as you do. The delta between the SC RS4 and S4 is small. Who’s SC is on those RS4’s? APR? Just goes to show how much better JHM’s Vortech is working.

[quote]
fastest ever supercharged B6/7 S4 = 91GL with countvohn’s tune, 11.9 @ 116
fastest ever supercharged B7 RS4 ET = Keith with countvohn’s tune, 11.8 @ 116
fastest ever supercharged B7 RS4 MPH = rocketman with countvohn’s tune, 11.8 @ 119

^^^^ Good stuff. Can’t wait to see what happens when JHM completes their motor builds for the S4. I remember reading somewhere that the Vortech they’re using is good for about 800CHP or so. Talk about a monster!!!

it flows enough CFM for around there…weather or not they’ll get that much out of it remains to be seen. I’d say a 600 whp B6/7 S4 with a built motor would be do-able…and would be awesome. And because the tune will work, we know it will be quick from a roll, from a dig, whatever.

Props to bluerocket and 91GL for sacrificing their cars for a couple of years (yes I said that) for JHM to get them up and running as the first two built motor cars. The process is excruciating as it has never been done before. Imagine trying to drive a wide car through a dense forest without touching a branch…you have to blaze a traiil, and its not easy.

Both of those cars will be pretty ridiculous when the time is right. I would like to see an update on the motor build from JHM. It’s, from what I understand, a full on redesign of many of the poor aspects of the motor that cause trouble. Once they’re ‘done’ they’re going to try to destroy Jason’s (jaybquick@jhm) motor with that blower to see which is stronger, the blower’s capacity, or the built motor’s. Then they’ll do it again. Then they’ll be ready to install for bluerocket and 91GL.

Since I don’t know how much work has gone into the B6 and B7 platform your quote really sums up and gives a very intence scope of whats going on.

I think the APR supercharger kit is going to not much better then the B8 S4 results. When you consider they are runing the same blower at the same rate there going to be in the same place hp wise. So I don’t see anyone with the apr kit doing much better then what the B8 S4s are doing.

Its very exciting to see what the next gen supercharger kits will bring for the RS4

Thats so sick!

I just want to point out i know you guys might think dom is a dick for thinking JHM was on nitrous but look a it from this point. NO ONE and i mean no one back in those days came close to that time minus Torque factory S4 and that was on hybrids. Im not sayin in anyway he did use nitrous but lets look at it from all angles before jumping on him. Id be lying if the tought didnt cross my mind.

Also shortly after that run is when JHM started pushin the nitrous in the B6 platform.

Reglardless im just glad theyre still ibn the game and laying down awesome times. we need more people like Jay in the community.

Good points…but if you really think about it, it’s not that big of a deal (his 11.1)

  1. sac is a great track - it is basically at sea level, and it gets fucking cold there and is almost always well prepped. DA is often at or below zero.
JHM ran their RS4 12.2 there recently on a 91 tune with 91 octane pump gas, full weight full everything but nobody crowed nitrous. Dan was driving. Dan was also driving his B5 S4 back in the day with K03s and ran 12.2 as well, a record. Nobody crowed nitrous. Sac is just a good place to run.

  2. jaybquick is a killer driver. He does not fuck up. He gets just about everything out of the car he can.

  3. he was on C16. Just about the best thing you can put in the B5 S4 for power.

  4. (MOST IMPORTANT) JHM’s tuner is light years ahead of all these APR/AWE OTS kit tunes, the EPL/ASP tunes…and most of all the DIY tuners that are out there. He really dialed it in for Jason for that car on K04s…(just as he really dialed in Dan’s K03 race file). I don’t think anyone in the Audi tuning world is touching Count Vohn’s tunes.

  5. jay’s car was dialed in for that 11.1 @ 130. He had every mod he could get…he shed 80 lbs of exhaust components and ran open dumps…and the tune was pretty damn strong. Anyone surprised jay now needed new turbos? Shouldn’t be. Those little K04’s got raped in pursuit of those timeslips.

  6. Nobody tried to challenge his time. There are almost zero B5 guys who go to the dragstrip anymore. No wonder nobody gets close to his time…they’re busy making excuses to not go. PinoyS4 is a JHM tuned car that went and showed it’s not rocket science to run low 11s on K04s. Him and jay both drove his car that day funny enough (jay went 10s on the RS6R turbos that same day) and Jay was a tenth quicker than PinoyS4…so driver sure helps.

Let’s look a little deeper:

Other fast K04 powered B5 S4s on racegas:

marc/10seconds4/bigbluemachine ran 11.0 with moderate weight reduction
http://www.s4biturbo.com/timeslips.php?id=3

pinoyS4 ran 11.4 last week at Sac, but had a full downpipes + catback exhaust on his car (while Jaybquick ran 11.1 with open dumps). As we saw with justincredible’s test of his nitrous B6 S4…running without exhaust and just open dumps really helps a big power car, not only in weight reduction but in letting the car breathe. Should be good for a couple of tenths and 2-4 mph depending on the exhaust that’s on the exhaust car.
http://www.s4biturbo.com/timeslips.php?id=165

As you can see from that list a few posts back, it’s not just jaybquick cars that countvohn tuned that are the fastest. Just about every full weight Audi S4/Rs4 record from B5/B6/B7 was tuned by countvohn. VAST used to be awesome…when COUNTVOHN helped VAST. VAST is a shadow of their former selves without him. People say Mike has gone downhill as a tuner…but he hasn’t. He just doesn’t have COUNTVOHN propping him up anymore.

Further, when jay ran 12s in a B6 S4…something the B5 world said would never be done, everyone said 'yeah, well that’s typical JHM…they run times nobody else runs. Only problem with that theory is that 2 of us ran 12s with all motor S4s with LESS mods on our cars.
After that, jay put nitrous on the B6 and went 12.2…and the naysayers popped up again. Only problem is cabracco, a JHM customer went 12.0 a couple of months later on nitrous.
Then jay went 11.9 with the JHM supercharger…and again the naysayers. Only problem there is that 91GL went 11.9 as well a few months later.

So really I don’t think Jay’s old B5 run was all that insane. Just sour grapes for Dom/Guruman.

Great post Saki.

The main reason I am going so far into modding my B5, is show the shit talkers that you dont have to be a company to run fast. Im a normal customer like everyone else and im going to run numbers like Jay, Im gonna beat the shit out of my car like Jay. Once the stock block has reached its limits, i’ll build it a little and run faster… and then drive it home.

I do all my own work and ill make the pass down the track, not Jay. Sick of people thinking that because Jay drove it is the reason no one else can beat the time. i’ll prove everyone wrong and im stickin to my word!

dude I’m a normal customer too, and no great driver…yet my car with piggies posted a better MPH than any other piggies B6/7 S4 out there, and went 12.9 with just downpipes/catback/JHM tune/LW rotors/LW crank pulley. Why? Because I had good parts, but I also went to the strip 3 weeks in a row and got 10 passes in each time in great DA. Sooner or later you’ll get a good time. It’s not a big secret sauce JHM hides from everyone. They’ll gladly sell it to you lol. My mods cost about $3000 all in, including $1800 for exhaust that I sold for $1400 when I parted out the car to sell it.

Just as pinoyS4 showed a week or two ago running 11.4, and just as you will show when you get up and running, a good tune and a good setup at a good track with good DA yields great results.

Problem for most people is they go to the strip once…they pre-announce that they’re going to go, drumming up interest (and expectations)…they go on a Friday in JULY with 300 cars there…and they get 3 passes, 2 of which they fuck up because they’re nervous…they deep stage because they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing…they redline EVERY gear, even though they stop making good power 500 rpm earlier than redline…the DA is shit…and their car is heatsoaked from staging all night…and their times suck, so they say ‘the car isn’t made for the dragstrip’ and never go back… Then they get flamed when they report their times to the forums, who are waiting salaciously like a pack of hungry wolves…and all the other guys see this and go 'FUCK THAT…I’M NOT GOING THROUGH THAT EMBARASSMENT!

The only time I go to the strip (while caring about my time) is in spring and fall when it’s cold and none of the casual/friday night special domestic guys aer there nor are the ricers because they can’t get traction. It’s just the diehards and you get 10-12 passes in each day…and the DA is excellent so you have all the opportunities to do well. Oh…and I NEVER tell anyone I’m going lol. I just show up on the forums on Monday with a timeslip.

To bring back an old thread, now that people are talking about these turbos again…

Going back to the original K04 run, does anyone remember the issues that Sacramento Raceway had with their speed calibrations a few years back? Cars were consistently trapping 3-5mph higher than was accurate, and this was a known problem. To my knowledge, this had now been resolved. I’m not saying that JHM didn’t run an 11.1 without nitrous (it is possible), but the trap speed has always appeared to be an outlier.

And if that is the case, it could explain how their built motor RS6-R car ends up with nearly the same trap speed. Just some food for thought, I am in no way trying to call anyone out I just feel that details are important.

Definitely possible.

That’s why we have a big massive dragstrip database to see what cars/setups are doing what, but to alert us to outliers etc.

www.audirevolution.net/quartermile

One thing I will say in Sacramento’s defense…every JHM time posted for the various configurations for B6/7 S4 and their B7 RS4 has been matched or beaten by customers at other tracks around the continent. That is going back over the last 3 years. They have no ‘outliers’ in the B6/7 platforms, whether that is 12.9 for a mildly modded B6 S4 or 11.9 for a supercharged one…every level in between has been matched.

Keep in mind that the B5 timeslip came before those other cars you mentioned though. And nobody since has approached a 130 trap speed.

That’s what I’m saying…it would seem to corroborate your theory (that it has since been fixed).

The B5 timeslip was from back in 2007. The B6/7 timeslips are all from 2009-2010-2011, as was the B5 10.88.

I still really want to knock out that k03 record… every time i see it i start obsessing over it, lol.

I’d like a stab at their K04 full exhaust time. The trap is around 7mph slower, so it seems like the mph was calibrated correctly and is in line. 130 just seems like too much of an outlier to approach, especially with full interior. We’ll see once the weather over here cools down.

This is actually not true. The calabrator for JHM had his own car go 11.2@128 back in 2005 and then had a personal friend of his car go 11.5@127.

The issue for not more publicity for the other JHM tuned 11sec times is the individual that ran them. Our Own countvohn. He put the APR SC JHM tuned RS4 into the 11s and never said anything about it. He put his own B6 S4 into the 12s (and was the first to do so) and never said anything about it. Most people know of his 134mph GT car that vast took fame for back so many years ago.

To follow up why the RS6r car didn’t trap better. I think we all need to know that this wasn’t ment to be shown to people. This was a proof of concept for the RS6r program.

As I know it once a year the calabraotr for JHM (from SVT and the Detroit Area) goes to cally around the holiday to have a year end Xmas celabration. When he was out there they put a quick tune on the just running Rs6r car and drove it and several other S4s and A4s to the track for a fun track day.

While I know 90% of companys come with BS stories on there lack of performance. THe JHM team spoke on how there throttle body broke and wasn’t opening all the way. This and the fact that they were not running that much boost. WOuld equate for the proper time.

I love that video. That thing is no joke. Any b5 trapping 130+ is serious business.

yes, that’s the funny thing about the JHM times. They don’t want the records…they want us to set the records.

The JHM supercharged B6 S4 was held back so much every time so that one of the customers could go faster. They wanted a customer to run 11s first.

The one day they did actually run 11s (first B6/7 ever to do so…before the A4 giant turbo guys…before the RS4 with the $18,000 RS4 supercharger) Jason from JHM was in his wife’s car (the B6 SC) to film Dan@JHM running in his B7 RS4. After a while Jason got the itch to run his car because he was bored and if you’ve met him, he is a little high energy (understatement of the year). So he ran it on half a tank of california 91 shit fuel, and with his babyseat still in the back along with a bag full of diapers and baby shit in the car. He still went 11.9.

^^ Sounds like you turning up to Cayuga to “hang out and take photos”. And then leaving with the RS4 Stock record!

exactly…but I’m no where near jaybquick high energy lol
