Question for those of you that have it installed: Does it intervene before or after the ESP?
If before, I don’t need to push the ESP button on a launch.

You will still need to use the button. The ESP system uses the breaks to control the car.
Since I’ve installed my LSD I’ve had to turn off the ESP when I’m driving aggressively because it’ll kick in at some very unexpected times. In a straight line at the top of 1st gear and accelerating through big turns it’ll jam the brakes and scare the shit out of me. I personally turn it off immediately upon starting the car and it’s a lot more fun making aggressive turns now.
I don’t have the JHM LSD but I have had to turn off ESP to enjoy my front and rear LSDs. ESP tends to kick on much like what MDUBZ describes.
There is a hard right hand turn that goes up a hill in my neighborhood and it is a lot of fun with ESP off. Just stomp the gas in first gear and cut the wheel so the car goes right around like it is on rails. It is all at slow speeds but fun none the less. With ESP on, if I try to do that then the car noticeably has the brakes applied and will jerk side to side trying to correct the wheels from spinning faster on one side than the other and I can feel it on the front then the back.
Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it.
Jimmy; do you get any kick back through the steering wheel when your front LSD kicks in?
There is no kick back. It makes the steering wheel easier to turn especially at slower speeds. The only weird part is when the ESP fights the front diff.
This.
Wish I could fix the button so I only have to push it when I want esp instead of turning it off every time.
Early B5 S4 guys just removed the ABS fuse since they had no ESP button to press.
I obviously don’t recommend that though.
I spent hours in vagcom changing stuff trying to get rid of the damn esp. its just not possible. I also wish the button turned it on when u wanted it instead of off. although I cant think of any situation ever where I would want it.
the jhm lsd is on my list for this year.
Numerous times I’ve had to drive on a highways with 2 to 6 inches of snow and I felt ESP was handy. I would have had to drive considerably slower without it.
I echo the ESP comment. I am not a fan.
ESP has trained me NOT to drive aggressive enough to spin wheels, as it shuts down all the fun if you do. Unless I am pre-meditated enough to turn it off every time I drive the car.
I have yet to encounter a situation where I was thankful to have it, but many situations where I wished I didn’t. Plus a few hair-raising moments where an aggressive launch into traffic was thwarted by ESP taking control of the throttle.
My personal point of comparison is living 10+ years with a 400 awhp STi that had no special traction or stability aids of any kind. Well, other than the electronically adjustable differentials that sent MORE power to whatever wheel(s) had the most traction.
Audi wheelspin = electronics slow you down
STi wheelspin = electronics speed you up
I too would like it where traction control/ESP was normally off and then I could turn it on by pushing the ESP button. It really is frustrating when I jump on the gas to get moving and then ESP jumps in to counter what I am trying to do. Plus I normally don’t drive my S4 in bad weather since the other drivers around me tend to get too close.
So what do you guys think I should do with this?

I’m thinking a base for a light maybe. Can’t imagine anybody being in the market for a stock rear diff.
Give it to me
