JHM RS4 Exhaust officially released

Wow that looks so good in debating going back again… The car def felt more powerful with the full jhm exhaust than with my full milltek…

the tips were the only complaint I had, just personal pref I would rather have a rolled edge. But I give credit to jhm for being different than everyone else. Otherwise the tips are def top quality.

the only other thing is the sound, I know jhm advised against non resonated, but I have a feeling if my previous jhm exhaust wasn’t resonated I would’ve enjoyed the note better. I thought the resonated version was too smooth… But that’s just my taste, its not a DD for me so I can live with something louder.

will jhm eventually post res vs non-res videos so we can get a better idea of the sound?

guys I know I look like an ass for ditching the jhm exhaust n tune and now wanting it back… We all make mistakes right?

haha your wallet dude.

I would like to see a comparison too. I think the non-res exhausts just get too frappy and raspy. Some love that though. I think in speaking with Dan, he just really loves the sound of the resonated, and thinks that’s the way everyone should like it. of course not everyone thinks the same way…so we should certainly hear more from a non-resonated system. I can promise you that most people want non-resonated…so that’s why they made it an option. They were probably tired of people asking and just caved in.

91GL’s old B6 S4 sounded incredible, but it was a sound I could never live with because it was so loud. There’s a huge range on what is ‘good’ to different people out there in the market place

once the car was gutted, i couldnt live with it anymore either, thats why i bought captain insano’s old cat-back and quiet it down quite a bit but still sounded nice.

i would seriously go non res on the JHM cat-back if i was fortunate enough to be an rs4 owner. i heard a sound clip and i am DYING to get one on one of my customer’s cars

^^I’ve never heard the non-resonated. Where’d you see the clip? One of the new ones I guess?
I think all the original hand made exhausts were resonated. The only ones I’ve ever seen were. People who have the old system are

ny07RS4
me
zmon
jlifschutz

All are resonated.

i saw it last week on youtube and then when i went to find it to show a customer i couldnt find it. it was a quick drive by, sounded incredible

I think I saw Jlifschutz put his up for sale. Parting his car out to go back to stock so he can sell it stock and recoup some money for the aftermarket bits.

His car is up for sale but I didn’t think he was parting it out. Smart to part out. The stuff ends up getting you about 5 cents on the dollar otherwise unless you get lucky.

Also, people often will recoil at the thought of a modified car. Probably because people with modified cars do stuff like this…going 95 mph in a 25 mph zone, flying through a stop sign at speed, and giving a senior citizen the finger for waving at them to slow down. All right before they conveniently go by a speed limit sign (40km/h)

There was a kid in an M5 who did something exactly like this last year around here, and before the end of the week, he was arrested.

Here’s his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFbLS3NfGnE&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I’m curious about how catted/noncat non res sounds.

So… anyone have any more sound clips?

I will have sound clips in about a week or two for the catless option. The weather hasn’t been the greatest and I’m still breaking in the clutch. Then I’ll have a sound clip with cats in about 2-3 weeks. I’m adding the cats I purchased via some v-band clamps and flanges.

I actually really like the catless sound the car is making now. It’s crisp and isn’t crazy loud when driving like a normal person. When you get in the upper RPM’s it opens up nicely.

The two main reasons I’m adding cats is for inspection and to the gas smell when pulling into and out of my garage.

I had originally thought the catless set up I’m running was a little boomy when I first got it but realized it only sounds like that while I’m backing out of my garage or/and up close to my PVC fence or other close solid structures. Which makes sense. It also only sounds like that during a cold start.

Lastly, even in 6th gear at about 1,800 - 2,200 rpm, there is a very faint drone but it isn’t bad at all imo. Windows up or down it is not easily noticed. I also usually cruise on the hwy around 2,600+ RPM in sixth so I don’t sit at those lower RPM’s anyway. The big test was yesterday when I had to drive my wife to a few appointments. She didn’t say boo. That tells me it’s not very different sound level and smell wise than my Tubi Rumores that I had. BTW those are for sale now, I’ll make a classified ad later.

Whose exhaust is that above, mistro…lifschitz?

Yes it is. I’ve watched all his vids on youtube.

Awesome, thanks

If it’s not too much trouble could you also do a “normal” in-car or drive-by clip as well? Like just typical load, shifting around 3k rpm.

in car is kinda useless but drive by is key. And a normal approach/stop/leave scenario, with the camera some 20-30 yards away. Would be great to compare stock vs. a few exhausts in a few scenarios one day.

We could do stock+piggies/h-pipe up here. Down there you could do piggies/h-pipe (Tony) vs. full JHM catless to give an idea on the level jump.

The videos I could find:

Lifschutz - catless, resonated

From Facebook - not sure what the setup is

Mick’s - catless, non-res…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTA522robTM - Dyno (can’t really hear it too well over the dyno noise)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=542VPPRgFkg - Cold start… not much else

This was posted before I think but here are a few in car ones from sarrs4sar - catted, resonated

From Saki’s channel of 2000s4 - catless, resonated
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuXShGfjT0c - 0:10 for rev, 0:18 you can kinda hear it, 0:47 launch from outside

rocketman - cattless, resonated (?)

^ I bought 2000S4’s system. It is catless.

Yes, i can do all of the scenarios described by both you and Saki. I’m hoping to pick a saturday when Tony is around and the weather is decent.

great work there

would be good to hav e amaster list. Someone did that on AZ then brought it here…but I have no idea where it is. That was for S4 guys.

There was also a video of krytponik’s car mixed in with like 20 other RS4s with various exhaust systems. His JHM 2.75" resonated sounded best of the bunch to me. It’s not on youtube though. I started a thread about that video once. search my username and kryptonik under advanced search, going back a year

here it is…searched compillation

Yep, that long haul of cars taking off was from one of the RS4 rally’s we did. It will be another opportunity to capture even more exhaust types this year…hopefully. I actually left right before that vid was shot so no Tubi Rumore in that clip. Others did capture it though in different vids from hat rally.

3ZERO3 (Facebook link above) is JHM catted downpipes with JHM resonated cat back.

These cars sound unreal - ok so carbon clean, intake spacer, exhaust so far lined up for 2013! Thx for collecting Mistro!
