The question is did you win this race

Sadly no i didn’t :-[. He ran a 12.03 and I did a 12.3 on this run. I don’t really count the Cobra as my competition as its hardly a road car and when its on nos does the quarter mile in the low 11s.

We did have a few of the turbo charged BMW 335i’s and a c63 Amg competing on the day but with the superior launching ability of the rs on an unprepared track i leave them from the line and with the charger they cant catch me.

great photos. and updates. The car looks great and is performing very well.

It’s always good to line up against relevant benchmark cars. Like a C63 or an M3. It shows you real quick why RWD is useless. In the hands of normal folks (the guys who can afford $70,000 cars…and not full time race drivers who work for magazines) getting a RWD to accelerate hard when you are under 70 mph is not easy. Especially a high powered RWD car. But in your awd audi you always get at least 90% of what the car can do. The rest is 8% shifting and 2% knowing how to dragrace.

Case in point.

In a magazine test they have a good driver and do 10 or so runs to get the best out of the car. A stock Mercedes AMG C63 will kill the stock Rs4 in this situation every single time. It makes 30-40 more hp, and 80 more tq. So it should win.

But most drivers of RWD big torque and big hp RWD cars won’t get anywhere near 90% out of the cars.

Here’s a great example. Great da (+200-300 feet), great traction with the warm sun, no wind. Perfect conditions for running quickly.

We had a few audis there who ran their personal bests that day. My car went 12.75@108.3 later on.

Here’s me against a C63. We had 2 runs. None were even close.

Interested in this comment. Would you say I’m at more of a disadvantage now when I go to the track vs. the B8?

Most guys will purchase 2 extra wheels and slap on some radials for track days. But street tire for street tire yeah you are at a disadvantage now as it is much more difficult to get out of the hole.

last time i went to infineon raceway i ran a c63 amg that ran 12.7 12,8 and i did 12.4 , but it think he had some goodies under the hood!

What are the best 60 foot and quarter mile times you guys have seen stock and modified Rs4’s run on unprepared tracks in the US?

Normally i get between 2.1 to 2.2 sec on my 60foot. Not sure whats the best rpm to launch at on our unprepared tracks so I can get a better time… ::slight_smile:

I remember having a 1.6xx 60ft but I cant prove it because the slip has been thrown out. point being theres a lot left on the table if youre at 2.2. when I launch I literally just mash the gas to the floor and then slide my foot of the side of the clutch pedal and try to keep the car straight.

edit* found it 1.6990.

We only run on prepped tracks for the most part here. My best 60’ on a prepped track was 1.80

As for best 60’ times on non-prepped surfaces I have lots of pbox data that shows me cutting mid 1.8 to low 1.9 second times.

2.1-2.2 is really bad.

For your car try launching at about 3500 rpms. As Badtoyz outlined just hold rpms at 3500 and then sidestep the clutch and go wide open throttle. Spins a little, catches and takes off.

If you’re at elevation you can change that to 4000 rpms. Go up or down by a couple hundred rpm to find what works best.

We have a dragstrip tips thread. Search for it.

Also what is your EXACT launch technique, and do you have any in car video?

Here are a couple of in car videos of mine both inside and outside .

the fact that u have shaved 1.3 something seconds off your naturally aspirated time is really impressive. especially with all the things against you. no track prep, DA and all that stuff. its nice to see the kit performing well in less than ideal conditions.

i have done some 60ft at around 1.79/ 1.80 sec
