Stage 1 around 3k miles and the upgrade of the stage 2 was completed on December 2016, so I guess like 100 miles more. This is not my daily drive so it spend most of the time on the garage an not in the streets. During stage 2 installation all the pulleys were replace (new from JHM) and we also change the supercharger lubricant
Pics I have right know are the ones install on the car. I’m going with a new set up in couple weeks so everything would be available soon
The battery relocation kit, high flow fuel pump, stage two pulley, and modified AC lines (if you don’t ship in yours to be modified) will easily push it over $11K new. Probably not much farther over that much but still. My point was that is a deal for any buyer.
Yeah, absolutely a deal for sure. Technically this is only a stage 1+ kit though since it’s gonna go to somebody without a JHM built motor and they won’t get the stage 2 tune.
there are half a dozen dead engine blocks sent out to scrapyards in Lathrop California from the early part of this decade when JHM were testing these kits out.
Why are you selling…and how do you measure sucess or failure with your project? i.e. acceleration testing? Dyno? racing other cars? What makes you say ‘I want to go turbo kit’ or ‘I want to go SC’ etc. from here.
Im going turbo because by the research I made a couple weeks ago the supercharger I have right know is very close to reach his max, so soon the next step, to get more power, would be to change the supercharger to a V7, try to make some 10 rib pulley fit, new injectors, tune etc. So for the extra money I have to spend for those new modifications I preffer to go turbo. I have a local shop can do all the work from me and it should be easier in terms of doing new modifications of my setup any time I want.
Failure vs success depends on your goals when you start your project, so my goals was to reach 550-600 awhp and I get 400 awhp with stage 1 and 480 awhp on stage 2. I dont consider my project a complete failure because even though I didnt get the numbera I want the car feels great, great acceleration, 480 awhp on 91 oct are decent number and was able to battle with almost any car out there. And the cars still works as an factory car with all his functions.
Just to make sure your aware of a few things we have all seen over the past few years.
your kit can make WAY more power. I have seen that same blower on other cars make 900whp and If Im not mistaken in the very start JHM posted a 505whp result from just not limiting the blower. See where your boost is at. From what I know your kit will make the 550 you want but you will need it to be at 13lbs of boost. I would assume your closer to 8 or 9
As for the turbo option. Make sure to look a little closer. While there have been a few turbo projects that all show big hp they have all bin slower and by a large amount. The turbo projects in both the S4 and RS4 have been a huge fail. They need to run almost 20lbs of boost to get close to the same power levels and when they actually go do acceleration testing the turbo cars time and time and time again are slower or just about the same but the turbo cars are running about 8 to 9lbs of boost more to be the same acceleration wise as the S4 or RS4. The turbo lag causes you to really be down on power. So far turbo cars have been good for nothing more then dyno sheets
Just double checking but normally this kit is without the intercooler correct? Basically anyone without a built engine cannot run it unless they want to blow up?
David S4 - you said that you made 480 whp on 91 octane gas. What is your elevation above sea level (I would assume really close to sea level but I want to be sure), what is the highest PSI reading that you have seen, and did you check what the ignition timing requested/retarded and/or MAF readings were?
Yep, state 1+ is still really fast for what it is and for that price it would be great.
You could run the stage 1+ kit (sc with stage 1 pulley plus intercooler) but you would be close to the edge of the stock internals limitations on 93 octane gas, especially in cold winter weather. You should buy it man!
Just wondering what you mean by this? What about this kit is stage 2, the pulley? You literally just acknowledged a few posts back that this isn’t a stage 2 kit. There isn’t one single component that makes a stage 2 kit, but rather a list of components: s/c, sleeved block, forged pistons/rods, battery relocation, intercooler, pulley, more hoses, second diverter valve, fuel pump, and a tune.
