JHM tune - High Idle

I posted on Audizine too. But as you know I just recieved my tune Yesterday. My car was running perfect before except for a CEL for my piggies.

I installed the JHM tune, went for a drive, I can tell I am tuned, throttle response is off the charts, more power, more torque yada yada.

My RPMS will not go below 1100 RPMS… sitting at a light with my non resonated FI it sounds like I am about to launch at the line, everyone keeps looking over because my car is so loud at the stop lights.

Some people have advised maybe I need to re-adjust my throttle body through vag-com however my dealer does not just simply hook up to your car & help you out. You have to schedule and appointment and turn your car over to them for an hour or so to “diagnose” and pay $80. My other mechanic (1 man shop) has 10-15 cars at a time and is extremely difficult to pin down and get ahold of. So for now, I am just taking suggestions on symptoms until I can actually Vag-com it.

I don’t know if this will clear the adaption or not. This is what I did. I took the batt cable off the positive and negitive on my car. I toutched the positive and negitive cables together for 45 seconds. Then I put the cables back on the batt and turned the key forward for 1:45 seconds. I noticed this fixed my issues I had.

is your dipstick in? high idle and hanging, lilting RPMs happen when it’s left out. You’ll get a code for it too.

have you scanned the car with vagcom?

You can also do a throttle body adaptation with this
Manual throttle body adaptation:

"The Throttle is “Drive By Wire” and adapts to your particular driving style. Do a TBA Throttle body adaption).

  1. Get in your car, it doesn’t matter if you close the door or not.

  2. Turn the key to the on position, the position just before the starter turns over.

  3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the “on” position.

  4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the “off” position(don’t remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

  5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment. During this time you may hear very faint noises and clicks. I
only heard one sitting in my car, if I got out and popped the hood I might hear more.

  6. Drive the car as you always do.

Depending on your driving style, this may or may not be a big factor. I do a lot of city driving so
I noticed a big change after erasing my history. It is not hard to do this, just follow the
instructions - Key on, pedal down, 5 sec, key off pedal up, wait 2 minutes.

Keep the key in for the entire thing. "

I’d be more interested in knowing what your CEL is on for if it was only due to your piggies before the tune.

Thanks, I will go try both of those suggestions…

-I know the JHM tune is supposed to over ride any CEL for 02 sensors correct? So I will be real upset if my CEL is still related to my piggies. The dealer also just raped me 2 months ago for new Pre cat 02 sensors (they thought my CEL was due to sensors gone bad) but my CEL never went away.

Yeah, I would definitely find out what is triggering your CEL, it may lead you in a more definitive direction as far as your idle.

and check that your pcv valve is still hooked up to the mani along with the hoses to the valve covers.

Scored cylinders

I keed

who told you that? That’s incorrect. They make an adjustment to the threshold that would see you triggering a catalyst efficiency code related to the increased flow from the deleted pre-cat…but they don’t override the o2 sensors. That sounds dangerous and irresponsible (and it happens in the industry unfortunately) but that’s not JHM’s M.O.

well I tried to TBA & battery disconnect. Still have a high idle, obviously my CEL went away because I disconnected the battery. But I am sure it will be back in a day or two. Anyway, I am driving all over the state of CO for buisness Today and have my best friends engagement party out of town this weekend, so I don’t see a way to get my car Vag-com’d before next week.

If you can find time to hit an autoparts store they can scan and tell you the codes.

Could be a faulty coolant temp sensor. The same causes the reverse sometimes - low idle on freezing cold starts

***UPDATE

  • I have 12 codes thrown for my CEL, most were due to my ECU, 2 were idle related, my mechanic did some things on his Vag-com, not sure what and now my car runs perfect

-Also, now my LA works!!

-Anyways, everyday I am more and more excited about my tune, like I mentioned before, just even 1/2 throttle driving is now really enjoyable! the throttle response makes me laugh everytime I go to hit the gas pedal. I love JHM’s tune and am a firm believer in that company

that is really frigging weird

your telling me, but now I have a perfect running car with a JHM tune and LA … I couldn’t be happier!

We have to know what your mechanic did via vag com. I can’t figure out what he would have done to resolve the issue + we all would like this info so we can learn from it and help others int he future. Try and find out if you can.
