JHM tune... What the actual fuck?

I ask sales before buying the tune and if the tune uses runner flaps for cold start and if they can be removed and remapped full open, their response was yes it’s possible but you will have to respond to the email after purchasing. Bought the tune, waited for the log in and Id email. Respond to that email with same question, and also asking if there is any documentation on what alterations the tune actually effects. Get a response “the sales page is the best resource for you”. Go back to the sales page to see if there was something other than “our tune is the best” and they are having a 15% sale on software days later, which no one felt the need to inform me about. The tune very well may be the best, but this is absolute fucking clown world shit.

Is this the top tier service everyone else receives?

No company is going to advertise that they adjust or do anything over email that’s going to cause issues related to or could be linked to emissions. The fact that you said in an email that you want them to help you with the tune to bypass or adjust for an inspection sticker would be the only thing that I would say is a clown show. I’d be smart to think twice before you ask a company via email to possibly violate federal law.

The TQ flap is the upper flap and you will generally not get an error code for. It’s the tumble flaps your getting an error for. Those would be potential emissions related errors. As they’re related to the cold start function.

So yes that would be the same service all of us would expect to get when we say tell me if you’re tune will help me get an inspection sticker.

The appropriate way to handle your situation is to understand how to correctly ask for help without over stepping the bounds. let tuning know of any error codes and follow any directions you they give you.

The car doesn’t fail emissions, it fails for the engine light being on for a component that physically functions properly and is no longer manufactured. Yes I asked them if they can map cold start with flaps full open so I can remove those components, it is not to cheat emissions. Good talk.

Inspection sticker = same. Different but the same. Justin is correct. You have to be a bit careful about things along those lines as some municipalities handle things different. If it was me and I saw your email I’d not answer either. Try taking his advise and see if your results are different.

Bro nobody is trying to win the internet here. Nobody said you don’t have a good reason for asking for help. But I think what lots of people are going to tell you is. You can’t send an email asking for help defeating a device on the car. Giving the error codes that by the way are related to the lower control flaps for cold start and then say it’s to help you with an inspection or emissions and then think JHM is a dick for giving you a soft answer of go check the website.

Maybe the sales guy will tell you in an email he will help you turn off every emission error code if you pull the cats and the SAI. But if they’re smart they’d find an around the way to answer and almost of us know this is the game we need to play…This isn’t a JHM thing. Call APR And ask them to help with your SAI or CATs. They’ll hang up the phone…I know this isn’t SAI or cats but you get the point… If you read some of my posts over the past few years. I’ve been saying this over and over.

Change your story… know how this works email them again. And if this happens again come back cut and paste the emails and call me a dick and I’ll take it like a man.

I have a hard time believing a company with a race only acknowledgment checkbox, which is there to protect them and is also inviting people to drive their street registered cars to their physical location in California to install illegal race only tunes and parts is scared to answer this question simply because the words inspection sticker was included in a statement which wasn’t even part of the question. Highly unlikely.

As far as the sales page… Does the tune change rpm, fuel mapping, timing, lambda sensors? Does it make wet fart sounds come out of the tailpipe?

All that tells me is basically “it’s no cookie cutter”. Maybe I should read the install instructions before buying perhaps there is some useful info about the product in there…


Oh cool a 0 byte text file titled “the installation instructions will be emailed to you”.

So you have to spend at minimum the 450 just to read the install instructions, and still have zero fucking information about the product.

Never in my life have I seen a company advertise the “defeats” in the tune. Be happy JHM is around and is the ONLY tune you can use for your situation. We are lucky we have them.

Your not the only one who has JHM tune, did mine at a tuner. Im not exactly sure what OP is saying here other than being frustrated there is no documentation for specific changes. Like a change-log. Got upset they said go read the info page?

Nizmo exactly. Anyone dumb enough to post an email of them asking a company to corporate in them breaking a federal law or at least to bypass a local regulation. Then being daft enough to after 3 people have politely pointed out Hey dude your kind of the dick here. Carry on without relenting to maybe this entire thing is kinda dumb and could have been avoided as HE’s the possible issue here.

RRussell now 3 people have told you the same thing. What apparently you’re missing is the go check the sales page answer as the non answer in a polite way. It’s the I’m going to basically ignore your previous email and point you to the sales page a a polite non response… You can change angles and carry on about the add not having 20 pages of what the tune does and sure that’s a valid issue. But now you and this post are tuning into the clown and the show.

I’m not here to bash you. I’m here to try and help bring you into a different thought process that you apparently might not have thought of. And if you’re not used to a “coded answer” I get it.

Try maybe for a second listening to what others are saying. Try to perhaps email them back in a way we have suggested and then come back and check in. I’ll say it again. I’ll be the first to say ANY company is fucked up if they fuck up. But we’re all telling you the same thing… And all that’s happening here is you’re showing you seem to be the issue here.

Bro I’m happy your hear and I’m happy you’ve posted for years and shown a lot of good community support. This is my attempt to show you the same.

AFAIK APR does not do anything to flaps, nor SAI. APR has removed many files for the earlier cars especially CATLESS downpipes (test-pipes). Those files are no longer available (if you dont already have file). Same thing with RFD delete files from APR (runner flap delete). The B7 RS4 and B7’s, B5 S4 all have same issues. Unless you already own the APR file, they cannot flash it. The APR rep can see it, but its greyed out no longer in service file. The days are coming with AI especially there will not be any software modifications of any kind.

Not bashing either, but they cannot tell you what you want to hear. Weird your posting the emails here because Im sure they wouldn’t appreciate that.
