JHM V10 ECU Tune - includes SAI Delete?

Hello AR Folks,

My car is almost finished what has been about a week in the shop getting some much needed work done including carbon clean/intake spacers/LW pulley/injectors/numerous gaskets, etc.

During the service I had the local shop disconnect the SAI and install block off plates as I maybe mistakenly assumed this was included in the JHM tune coding? We finished with the JHM Tune - however now we have some question as to whether this is coded as part of the tune or not?

Does anyone on this forum have specific experience with the V10 JHM tune and know if the SAI delete is included as part of that tune?

Thanks!
Jason

The tune is adaptive, you can use it either with or without the SAI delete without changing anything.

Are you having issues that you think might be related to that?

No issues yet and I’m picking the car up tomorrow. One test drive by the shop so far and all is well, we just weren’t sure if we’d get a CEL after a few hours / cold start(s). The shop is just trying to be diligent and make sure they return the car to me without some fault showing up two days from now after having a bunch of work done. It’s the first JHM time they’ve done so we didn’t know exactly how this SAI delete was handled.

So…in your opinion, with it being adaptive, we should expect no errors?

Exciting!!! In for a review

I picked the car up this morning, no issues/codes to speak of so we seem all good.

Car is running amazing, which I think would be expected after having the full carbon clean, intake spacers, JHM flow matched injectors, LW pulley, new spark plugs, ecu tune all in the same week.

Thanks for the replies. After some further seat time I will give my comments on the effect of the tune. The tech at DA was surprised on his test drive to see/feel the gain like he did, and they told me it was unusual, outside of what they expect on an NA car…

So…I have an update. After about 8 or 9 days of driving, one morning I was stuck driving behind someone going 20mph for 10/12 minutes right from my neighborhood exit until the freeway (not sure if this is a factor or not). Right before we got to the on ramp, my CEL came on. No driving issues whatsoever.

The light never went off, I took it back to Dougherty Automotive to have the codes read and there were two faults stored for the secondary air system. So it would seem to not be coded out. However, the DA tech and advisor were both surprised it didn’t throw the light on sooner.

This was a week ago, been driving since then with no CEL after multiple starts and overnight/cold starts in the AM.

Perplexed. But anyway, if it comes on again, we are going to pull the SAI delete plates they fabricated (JHM ones didn’t fit?) and go back to having the secondary air system functioning. At the end of the day I guess I don’t really care…

I would highly suggest getting the codes from Doughtery and sending them to JHM and have them advise.

I know from the other cars that get the JHM tune with SAI off that JHM takes an approach that will still allow you to pass readyniess for emissions. The fact that the temps have been so low and the length of driving time on the JHM tune says they set the SAI fault adjustments higher Vs just killing the system. From what we have seen over the years JHM likes to keep as many systems active as possible.

A lot has to do with how you disabled the SAI. JHM just adjusts the system off and the fault limit higher. But You might have a pump unplugged or pump removed. Either way the codes will tell JHM how you disabled the SAI system and they can just send you a flash update.

Trust me. The SAI system sucks in the winter and makes the car run like crap. So having it gone is a good thing.

Yeah SAI makes for a shitty drive for the first 4-5 minutes or so… after that pretty much smooth like normal…

Awesome Before and after pic of the carbon clean. Do you know what method they used? results were fantastic.

They started with chemical clean but it was taking very long with avg results. Then moved to walnut blasting and as you see great results!

Well, did you get this all solved? If so let’s see a review. I have heard the tune is amazing and transforms the car to how it should have come from the factory!

I am in the process of getting this solved, still have the CEL and a few codes which have been sent to JHM. They are working on the tune and I am waiting for the word that the file is on the server so I can get a re-flash.

I’ll let you know once this is sorted out.

In the meantime, while having my oil changed most recently, the tech found a small vacuum leak on the round gasket going into the driver side of the Y-manifold. I have been having what appears to be minor/intermittent lean misses on the first startup of the day and this could be causing it? I am waiting for the part to have this replaced too. Fingers crossed its not somehow a warping of the Y piece, as that doesn’t look likely to be inexpensive!

The only other strange behaviour I have noticed since having all of this top end work done, is during medium-hard/hard acceleration in 2nd or 3rd gear I have a slight power dip (almost like a fuel cut off for .5 seconds) between 4k and 5k rpms. Any ideas?

I have never tried these harder accel. runs with the TC off, could that be the problem? I don’t get any warning lights…

We are going to investigate further when the car goes in to fix the vac. leak and get flashed again.

JHM tune. Check the other threads, the throttle input is connected to pedal travel etc., what you describe sounds like a minor fuel cut, may not be an issue. Are you Keeping throttle at same position during redline and gear change?

Any kind of vac leak is a sure fire missfire causer. Espically when the car is cold and the theromal expasnion hasnt happened yet.

Its great to see JHM working to help make sure everything is ok. Its great to have a company that is wanting to work with the customers to make sure everything is at its best

As for the fuel cut off thats hard to say. Try it with the TC off all the way and see if that gives different results. There is a very good chance thats it

I experience that fuel cut from 1-2 under hard acceleration like it’s protecting the transmission as if shifting at the point would be too hard so there’s a fuel cut.

Sounds about right. I’m curious maybe it’s only for those with that tcu, but is the redline bumped to 7200 like I’m the s8?

The S8 and S6 have the same red line even tho audi says there different. Ive logged them back to back they both shift at the exact same rpm

The other possibility would be due to the JHM tune. The JHM tune stops the car from pulling power in the upper rpm it also reduces the cars power loss on shifts doing that will make WOT hard run shifts more pronounced

Thanks Justin, is it actually 7200 for each gear or does it vary? Not to derail but how much higher can the trans actually take with benefit to the tuned motor, say 7300?

I used to experience a fuel cut under hard acceleration in 1st gear, before my JHM tune. If I was rolling at, say, 5mph in 1st, and mashed the gas, the car seemed to bog down (even with TC turned off). Problem went away, though, after the JHM tune.
