Labor costs for shocks, struts, and springs

So I have come to the conclusion that I won’t be able to change these things on my own with the tools available. I’ve called around to a few shops to try and get an estimate on how much this would cost. I have bielstein b8’s with H&R lowering springs. Anyone have an idea of around what a reasonable price would be?

If your a snow state car most shop are going to give you a higher rate due to the snow state rust issues.

To be safe you can assume its going to be billed at a min of 1 hour labor a wheel. Generally shops bill out at 100$ an hour. So about 4 in labor would be ball park

Thanks Justin, I am in PA so it is a snow state. But my car is garage kept with 26k miles on it so rust isn’t an issue. I’m going to meet with someone at the dealer tomorrow because so far around here quotes have been in the 1,000 dollar or above range. If the dealer can’t do any better i might just spend money on the tools and do it myself. I figured there was no way it was this much, everyone around me keeps quoting me 6+ hours. Idk what type of book they’re running off but it seems insane.

If you are moderately handy, I encourage you to invest in the tools and do it yourself. No one will do a better job than you, and you will be able to inspect and replace other items as needed. You will likely find you need new upper control arms, and you may want to replace other bushings while your in there. You can inspect CV boots, etc. This board is a good resource for getting the job done.

But if you don’t have the confidence, or can’t keep your car off the road as long as it takes for the job…be prepared to spend at a shop.

WOW 1000$ that is steep. 650 would be what I would think would be more of the top rate but that is a lot.

Mind you its kinda a crap job if things don’t come apart as they should. But with your mileage it shouldn’t be super bad.

Yup, ended up going to the dealer this morning and got quoted at 1,999.99 he said the car is clean but by the book the job takes 6-8 hours. Not sure what book he’s referring to because that’s insane lol. Anyway ended up talking to a close friend who said he could pencil me in at his shop on a slow day for 450. So disaster averted. It seems like people around my area just dont like working on these cars so they just give insane prices with the hope that they’ll ward me off.

As an aside, my car has been a midwest car all its life. 140k miles. There’s no rust on the fasteners. The corrosion protection Audi used on this car is superb, so there should be no worries there?
